Tractor Sizing What size of older Yanmar do I need?

/ What size of older Yanmar do I need? #11
Winston, there was a long thread here about the cooling system on my tractor a couple of years back. If I just had a warning light on it, I probably wouldn't think there is a problem, as it has never overheated. I have taken extensive temp readings with a laser at different points on the tractor, and the guy at Fredrickson said it was ok. Some folks here disagree, but I decided that I am just gonna run it. Everything related to the cooling system was replaced; I don't know anything else I could do.

And yes, the time it gets hotter than I like is when cutting tall and tough grass on 100 degree days in August. It's hard work for such a small tractor.

Sounds like you are on top of it.

Tall grass tends to have headed and that usually flies in front of the tractor. As it flies, it seems to get sucked into the spaces in the radiator and reduces air flow. One of the best products I have seen for this problem is the radiator genie. Water and air connector wands. If you can make a fine meshed screen that hopefully will catch most of these flying fuzzies and can be quickly cleaned while mowing, and place it in front of the radiator.

The Yanmar 336D might be an acceptable tractor for you, similar to the JD 950.

I am thinking for your needs a minimum of a YM276D (US Market) or YM2210D, YM2310D..... I would go up to the YM336D (US Model) or YM3110D/YM3810D.

Thank you all for the recommendations. Any thoughts on the YNM-2210-D? I think having 20+ PTO horsepower will be enough to clip/mow my pastures a few times a year, depending on grazing patterns I end up with.

How do these tractors do on slopes? My 3 acre pasture has a few 15° slopes that I would need to be careful on. The rest drops down to nice and level.

Not well. Yanmar-USA sued the grey-market industry out of existence in the US, after a new owner died in a rollover his first week and the widow sued Yanmar.

ROPS left upright and seatbelt used 100% should be mandatory anywhere but flat ground.

But the 2210D is a great choice for the application you describe, given that safety precautions are used on this, or any alternative.

Was there a ROPS on tractor?

No. In those days the VN refurbs only got repairs as needed, tires, seat, and museum-quality paint so that a few dishonest re-sellers could mis-represent them as new if they wanted to.

Everybody but Fredricks got sued to abandon use of the Yanmar trademark. Fredricks already had a unique agreement, to do quality refurb in the US, so they were spared and are still in business. Fredricks contracted with the original supplier of ROPS for American Yanmars to resume production. So that ROPS, also sold by Hoye and others, is a real OSHA ROPS.
