Dump trailer load equalizer hitch

I've been looking at dump trailers in the 14k GVW range and figure that I'll need a load equalizer type hitch for it. I have a Reese Equalizer for my RV trailer (11,000 # GVW) which works well and plan to use it for the dump trailer as well. However, the I-Beam type trailer does not accommodate the snap-up bracket. Welding in a plate to box the beam is an option, but the I-beam is 4" wide and the snap-up bracket only accommodates 2-3/4" wide frame. Even the square tube trailers are to wide. So, how do you put a snap-up bracket on your trailer tongue? Is there a particular brand that works?

You but another set of brackets on Amazon and weld them to the frame.

Okay.... Obviously you'll have to cut the bolt/clamp on party off to make it just the other face with the hooks. Then you weld it on.

Check a different brand of dump trailer. I have a 16' 14K dump trailer. The tongue is 2"x5" C-Channel. Main frame is combination of 2"x8" box tube and 2 1/2"x8" C-Channel. Tongue takes my standard WD snap up brackets. Never seen a trailer with 4" wide I beam.

What brand of trailer do you have?

The PJ trailers I looked at this past weekend were I-beams 4" wide. They had a single telescoping cylinder at the tongue to lift the bed. Very nice setup. I want to find a MAXXD 14k trailer to check out, but all the dealers are 3 to 4 hours away. Have to combine that with another trip and be sure they're still in business after this COVID stuff.

My trailer is built by Cross Country Mfg. here in NY. Also a single cylinder.
