Tractor
TYM 233
It just recently started with the gauges and tach not working. Sometimes they're fine others dead. It's from start up, they either work or they don't for as long as the tractor is running. Was thinking maybe a ground problem. Tractor is about 12 years old.

I'd pull the steering wheel and gain access to the wiring harness and relays. I probably get one mouse nest per year in there and between urine and chewing all kinds of wiring issues can ensue. Unfortunately I've never been able to find a readable wiring diagram, so you might have to hunt and peck to figure out what the culprit is, but it definitely sounds like a wiring issue, and possibly a loose ground as you mentioned.

If you can access the electrical connector for the instruments try disconnecting and reconnecting it to check for improvement. Determine how your instruments are grounded and ensure the connection is secut.

Yeah I know, I just hate pulling the steering wheel every time I need in there.

Don't I know it. . . At least you don't need a steer wheel puller to get it off. :)

I have the wiring diagram from the owners manual. Seems to be fairly accurate, majority of the colors even match. I take a picture with my phone of the section I need and zoom in on it. Might try it if you haven't.

I have the version from manual as well, but it's way too low resolution to interpret pin-outs. The colored wires kinda help, but it's not ideal. I'm assuming the shop version is a six page fold-out that was shrunk to 1 page for the user manual.View attachment T273_WiringDiagram.pdf

Is yours just the digital copy, I looked and I have that one too but the one in my owners manual is a long page fold out and although small magnifies very well.

I only have a digital copy of the owners manual. Adequate for most repairs, but not for the wiring diagram. Would you possibly be willing to make available a higher resolution photo/scan of the hard copy of the wiring diagram? I posted a thread about this and like 100 folks viewed the post, but no one responded. I'm willing to bet that a lot of us would benefit from the high res diagram.

If I can figure out a way, I'll work on it. By the way does yours by any chance have the rear hydraulics. Would like to see the arrangement of how its plumbed. Dealer had a NOS kit but wanted $880 for it.

I appreciate you trying. Even a a few photos from a phone of the original full-size schematic would be better than what I have. Ironically, I had an issue with my fuel pump yesterday, and after exploring a few hunches (e.g. no 12V to the fuel pump), I discovered that I had blown the 20A Eng stop/PTO fuse. The tractor "mostly" won't run with this fuse out. However, you can slightly push in the brake solenoid and hold the ignition in the start position and you can still keep the engine running. Probably not a good idea, but got me to within range of my shop and tools. Thankfully I had just filled the tank with fuel, so I had enough gravity feed to get it started. A proper wiring diagram would have made tracing wiring soooo much easier! :)

Sorry. No further info on the rear hydraulics. I assume you mean the accessory hydro pump that would be used to run a backhoe? For the cost of plumbing and a backhoe I figure I could rent an awful to of backhoe time. . . .

You ever figure out what was up with your flaky instrument panel? When I had mine apart yesterday I definitely had some corrosion around the connectors. There are a couple of 20 pin connectors that come of the main harness and connect to the dash. You might try wiggling the connector and see if you can recreate what you're seeing. Sounds like you have loose wiring or corrosion.

I would be looking into the ignition switch as a cause for the intermittent instruments.

I would suspect a relay.

I posted a phone picture of the copy I have in a new thread.

These have worked the last few times out so I have let it ride. Mow again tomorrow so will find out then if was just fluke.
