Murphy’s Unabridged Law as applied to TbN: Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, at the most inopportune time, with the most inconvenient/expensive results, in the most inaccessible location, in the most embarrassing manner given presence of witnesses.

Otoole’s Commentary to Murphy’s Law: Murphy was an optimist.

oh, and for metric/imperial issues? Simply buy two Crescent wrenches - one metric, one imperial.

Be sure to buy a set of Vice Grips as back up.

Vise grips won't work, you need a pipe wrench. Otherwise you will never get that drain plug out.

I had to buy some 18 mm wrenches, because the sets don't usually include them, and I run into them all the time.
Same here, ran across a couple 18mm wrenches at the thrift store and I now have one in the car and one in the toolbox.

I think all of ya are way too optimistic. Its not will go wrong but is going wrong. Quit waiting for it to happen. Its screwing up as we speak. Drain plugs are seizing, oil is leaking, tires are going flat, and somewhere someone is sure it went back together right.

Not sure if it's exact, but 7/16" is pretty close to 11mm.

If you know the decimal equivalent of fractions, ie 7/16" is .437", multiply the 11 mm by four and the result (44) will be close to the decimal.
Another example is 19 mm times four is 76 which is close to .75" or 3/4". My mental process is to double the mm twice to get to the times four.
Sorry if I make myself clear as mud.

Many years ago a coworker had his wife running all over town looking for a metric Crescent wrench. She got back at him by sewing up the opening in his underwear.

Lots of metric sizes can be substituted but may not be exact, i.e 13 mm is not exactly .5" it is .5114 so a 13 mm with work on a 1/2" nut but a 1/2" wrench might just round off the nut if a lot of pressure is applied.

I've told this story before, but it illustrates your point. Sharn Jean sent me to the store, among other things, to buy her some personal feminine hygiene products. I felt a bit uncomfortable rummaging through the various products, and couldn't find the exact thing I thought she wanted (before we had cell phones). I noticed this lady watching me at the end of the isle, who was evidentially fully aware of my frustation. I tried to ignore her best I could, but here she came, like my Dad used to say, "grinning like a cat eating wasps". She walked right up to me, and with a big smile, said "Now you know how I feel when my husband sends me to the hardware store". We both had a big laugh!

Made perfect sense to me, but then again, I do the same thing, so either we both are smart, or really dumb :)
