Buying Advice Just bought a 1989 Yanmar 169D

Would this 48" bush hog type implement be good for the Yanmar?

MK Martin | Pulsar

I am unfamiliar with that brand, I noticed its description list 20hp for the low end which is 4hp above your tractor. But yes that would be the general type of brush cutter in 4’ that I am referring to.

Does your operator’s station resemble this one?

I can answer most questions as can lots of others as to what the different controls do, if you do not know. It is possible your tractor may not have all of the controls shown in this picture.
I do not know what the orange handle under the steering wheel on the left is. I would guess something to do with the mower deck, but unsure.

According to Tractordata.com, you have a 2 speed range transmission with 3 forward and 1 reverse in each range.

You also have a 2 speed PTO. Both are to provide a PTO RPM at 2255 engine RPM’s. One is US standard 540 PTO RPM’s (almost every implement for tractors of this size will be for this RPM speed in the US) the second speed is 770 PTO RPM’s.

Thanks. The lever with the orange handle is for the rear 3 point lift.

Ok, so it is not on the right side by your seat?
Do you know/understand the functions of the other controls shown?

This one should be used in my opinion every time you start the tractor. It is called a decompression lever. It should pull back toward you sitting in the seat. It allows the compression of the diesel to be removed to allow the starter to spin the engine up faster and with less starter strain. Also allows oil pressure to build without the strain of the compression. If the engine is warm even warm air temp the TS is not needed again in my opinion and the engine should start quickly after sliding the decompression lever fully forward.

Your kidding! Your 3 point control should be a lever right to the right of your seat. That dash lever must be an ad on for an auxiliary.

Winston1, that was a new one for me as well. You may have notice I asked about the right side of the seat as well.

Is it perhaps something with lifting the mowing deck for the only operator station control photo I could find for a YM169. But I have only laid eyes on 1 3 digit YM series, and it was in NC not MO. And I did not have time to look at it then, just drove past it in a parking lot.

Sorry I was confused. The photo above is not the 169D. I believe in that photo it shows a special transmission gear lever that is not on the 169D.

In the photos on the previous page, the orange handled lever (right side of dash relative to the drivers position) is the engine throttle. You set it for idle then a parallel-linked mechanical foot pedal can open it up when pressed. You can also use it like a cruise control and open it up. My 1969 Datsun 240z has a similar hand throttle feature used to give a faster idle for a cold engine. People used it for cruise control.

There is a PTO up/down lever also on the drivers right side of the 169D that is hard to see. There is also a 2WD/4WD lever and a Hi/low gear lever.

The middle of the seating area has the gear lever for R-1-2-3 and the left side of the seat has PTO RPM selector.

The caption with the above picture I supplied was labeled as a YM169D. The labels in English support that it is a USA model. Again only clearly up how it was labeled online.

You should also have a diff lock located near the floor at your right heel. This is great when traction is lost on 2 rear wheel only as it locks not axle half’s together. But do not move with it pushed down if you do not have need of it. Turning will become near impossible with it engaged.
Also only use 4wd when needed not all the time and never on hard surfaces which would include hard packed soils.
