Speaking of flail mowers, Betstco put out a 5% off coupon, and I was thinking about using it to purchase a longer flail mower. Trouble is, they were out of the side shift model I wanted, and wouldn't issue a rain check. Then I found a 20% off coupon they issued back in March, and decided maybe it's better to wait for a better offer!

74 outside this AM. Heading to 90's. Waiting for more light, got about an hours worth on the chain saw this AM, cleaning up branches. The RTV will get more work than the three trips to the burn pile. My black walnut shed a branch too. Don't think I can use the wood other than a few pieces for the fireplace. Scared the family last night when they saw all the house siding laying all over the yard. I forgot to tell them I had stacked the siding after I removed it for the front porch work. The pile went- everywhere.
A check on the pool revealed over an inch of rain. We can take that.

Hope all have a good day. Be safe!

Need to pour first cup of coffee. 66° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 80° with partly cloudy skies. Conserving energy day went very well. Dr. visit for me. That should fill the day very well. Was going pick up my Aunt this morning for a few days stay. Already called and canceled this morning not feeling well.
Deer in morning sun.

Roy, hope for the best with your test today. No fasting for my test today. Just arrive with a full bladder.

Drew, you got all the boxes filled?

RNG, have you checked out Woodmaxx for a flail mower. They offer all the way up to 88".
While I was looking at Bestco site I noticed Tractor News. Briggs and Stratton has filed for Bankruptcy. 7/20/2020.

Don, good video.

Riptide, hope your siding did not get damaged.

David is the tropical storm going to affect you.

Eric, I like the finished project feeling. Doing the project has good feelings also. But it usually get me thinking, "Well, here's another nice mess you've gotten me into". From Laurel and Hardy.

Kyle, RV's with rear engines have similar problems with plugged radiators. Had it ever been cleaned before.

RS, good plan for the kids.

Everyone be safe an healthy.

Good Morning All.

Somewhat surprisingly got that Hilo section flailed. I usually take 2 days for that area, but had a really good day, just hot and dusty. Of course to be honest there are two sloped areas that would take about another hour, but might forego this time around. The slopes are one side of old cane road and the other a conservation berm. Can only mow by repetitive backing upslope.
Really pleased with the results, first time with flail since left in disarray by the sweet potato farmer. Still a few more rocks to be picked up.
Congrats on getting it done. Surprised with your rainfall that it ever gets dusty.

73 going to 93.

Got the edge of Riptides' storm last evening and got about 0.3" ...all is welcome. I second Rick's endorsement of the EA grapples.

Buppies, condolences on breaking your streak of 90s today.

Ground may be damp enough to mow off the seed stalks on what's left of the grass and weeds today before roasting coffee and then visiting the vet. I need some exercise so may hike while the grass dries.

Roy, I drank an extra cup of coffee for ya...hope all tests well and you get a big meal when done. Shot the .300BLK yet?

Only dilemma is should I start another project to fill my time, or should I try for the novelty of finishing one in less than a year instead ?

Start a NEW project. Always have at least two going.
After the short lived novelty of the congratulations and feeling of accomplishment after finishing a project, the sense of loss to the challenges of obstacles could be overwhelming.

Mostly, you might have to remind the CA of the maintenance and taxes you are saving them yearly.

Good morning! 74˚F, heat index 74˚F, Wet bulb temperature 74˚F. - we are in alignment 40 minutes after sunrise.
Humidity 99%, Rain for 22 minutes and .02" of rain. (The automatic sprinkler irrigation system went off last night now I have a base number on sprinkler day.)
solar radiation 85 W/m2
wind 2mph SSW

Got e-mail notification from AT&T that I have two phones that need replacing because they will soon not be compatible with the new network and I need to replace them to continue receiving service. The iPhone SE is not one of them, Drew and RNG.

Ron,
I noticed Tractor News. Briggs and Stratton has filed for Bankruptcy. 7/20/2020.
Good news is they will continue on in a "work out" bankruptcy, bad news is they terminated all retiree benefits.

Briggs & Stratton Corp. bgg said Monday it has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and reached an agreement to sell most of its assets to KPS Capital Partners. The Milwaukee-based company, which makes gasoline engines for outdoor power equipment, said it has secured debtor-in-possession financing of $677.5 million from KPS and its existing lenders to allow it to continue normal operations ahead of the closing of the deal. "Over the past several months, we have explored multiple options with our advisors to strengthen our financial position and flexibility," Chief Executive Todd Teske said in a statement. "The challenges we have faced during the COVID-19 pandemic have made reorganization the difficult but necessary and appropriate path forward to secure our business." Shares fell 27% premarket, and are down 88% in the year to date, while the S&P 500 SPX, +0.57% has fallen 0.2%.

71°F and heavy fog this morning, going up to 89° today. Looks like we're heading into four days of pretty much the same as today; sunny and around 90-ish.

Talking to the Plant Manager during my morning rounds at work today, and he thinks we'll just shut down for tomorrow. The work load level here is starting to concern me.

Nice picture, Ron.

Installing a new driveway - YouTube

I've subscribed to very little on Youtube but this guy I find very interesting.
He shows his mistakes too, I always learn something
10 million views of his putting in a driveway!
For those that didn't watch the vid -
I found it interesting when (at about 13 min) he got his big truck and trailer stuck in the mud then got out of the truck and started the excavator to push the trailer and truck up on the road, then ran back to jump in the truck and steer the truck till he was clear. Then with the excavator just running by itself he ran back to stop it.

<snip>Wife says should have got a grapple for the tractor. I told her it is not too late for that. Major hint.
<snip>
WHAT??? You have not ordered it yet?
Opportunities like that need to be taken advantage of.

Back from the tests...and, boy, does this coffee taste good!
The ultrasound of the aorta went fine...quick too! What they were looking for is an aneurysm (swelling or bulge in the aorta) which there was no indication of one
I'm waiting for a call from the doctor who'll interpret the results of the CAT Scan. The scan was faster (2 minutes) then the UT...waiting for the doctor's results (today, supposedly) will take time

That kind of a note would have me looking for a new provider, Don. But that's a bridge neither Drew nor I will have to cross, as we're both on Verizon. I do have a land line with AT&T (they have a monopoly on them here), and they've been anything but easy to deal with. Given any other choice I'd take it, and there's no way I'd sign up for cellular service from them. How that for a hearty recommendation? NOT!

It's a wonder this didn't happen years ago. Given the excellent performance of Asian engines, especially Honda and Subaru, why would anyone buy something with a B&S engine in it, unless they just didn't know any better?:confused3:

I have engines from all three of the manufacturers. All do there job very well. One of B&S engines is over 50 years old. Put fresh gas in it and it runs. Honda’s are great engines. But 3 times the price of a B&S. Company I worked for built machines that balanced various models of engines flywheels. Did installation and service calls over the years. Met lots of good dedicated employees during my visits.

Good Morning!!!! 69F @ 7:15AM. Plenty of sunshine. High near 95F. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph.
More broken record weather, but it's actually been nice, with a good breeze and low humidity. Supposed to be HOT for the weekend, though.

Hopefully things turn around soon, Paul. There's lots of pent up demand out there, but it's gonna take a while for the pause to work its way through the system.

Nice big doe, Ron. She got any fawns?

As if you don't already have enough to do, Mike. Glad nobody was hurt, and there wasn't more damage than there was.

Sounds like a happy windfall on the Speedaire, Kyle. Baldor makes the best motors you can buy, and as long as the unloader is working on the compressor, it sounds like you're good to go. Could be any number of things on the old motor, from something as simple as a broken wire or a piece of mud stuck where it shouldn't be, to a bad start capacitor, maybe a bad over temperature switch or ???. Is there a sticker on the motor showing a schematic? Or can you get one from the Grainger site? Then start checking, carefully, with a VOM and see where that leads you. Gonna be a hard pill to swallow at work to purchase a new compressor when work is slow. At least they can depreciate it on their taxes.

I think I could use something of a vacation from new challenges, at least for a while.

I learned late Tuesday night that PG&E had rejected the connection request because the description on the building inspection card didn't mention anything about there being a storage battery in the solar power system. Had to call the county and get them to modify the inspection card and then resubmit it. PG&E should have also gotten a copy of the Generator Plan, which contains a detailed description of the whole system, including data sheets on each component including the battery. But like the contractor always sez: Give 'em what they want because it's easier than arguing with 'em.

rustyManStanding.jpg
Picture of a rusty, draggin' butt, hot, dirty, old man. At times the dust was so thick, it was sliding down the insides of the safety glasses like snow in a blizzard, and the N95 mask I was wearing was totally trashed. The tank still looks rusty, both of us do, but it's just dust laying on an otherwise solid surface. The wire brush went through in a couple places where the side and bottom of the tank meet, but I think some fiberglass resin and mat will be an OK fix, once the rust is converted. The stuff to do that should be here tomorrow. Still have the underside of the lid to clean up, but I've gotta flip it over first. It's on a pallet, and I think that'll make it easier to get it parked on a pair of saw horses so I don't have to work stooped over.

But that's a job for tomorrow. Gonna take a little break today, get the instruments put together and into the van, and see if the repair made any difference on the way into town for groceries.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

I'd be surprised if this did anything for B&S quality. There are bound to be lay offs. No doubt management will walk away with lots of cash.
