Utopia take 2

Wow! That pretty much says it for me too! We have it good here and have the amenities, 4 seasons, low risk of disasters, but taxes are up there. Sure, it is fun looking at places for sale in other states and dreaming, but that would be a big undertaking. All areas have their quirks and a person should do the research first.

My sister lives in Wisconsin and we were thinking about moving there. When we saw how much more property taxes are there, we backed off on that idea.

The Wife and I have a 5-Year Plan: Be completely debt free, have ample savings in the bank, research or visit any areas we find interesting and begin downsizing.

This may just be a pipe dream because I will be 73 by then and it all depends on health. I just had my second pituitary brain surgery last week and who knows what comes next. Time will tell.

How can you have four seasons without snow? That seems more like three seasons to me.

A little snow is fine...just don't want 4 feet that lasts from September thru May.

I read Zane Grey 'Riders of the purple sage' and foolishly thought this had something to do with the colours that got the original thread closed.
Back to topic gents.

I spent most of my 20s ( years not dollars ) living in South Fla. I still visit a few times a year but no longer care for it there. Far to crowded and congested..And I'm too old to learn a new language. .. Its funny how time changes areas.

If/when you retire, you could split your year.
1/2 in Florida, and 1/2 in NE.
I have been splitting like that for 25 years.
+ 1 one day in Fl. makes you a Fl. resident.

I don't want to own and maintain 2 homes, Once we pack up and move..its done..I really do not like the North East at all. So I really can't see any reason we would want to come back.

You don't like the coast of Maine in the Spring/Summer/Fall?
I don't think I have ever met anyone who felt that way.

I dislike the Northeast primarily due to taxes and gun laws.

That said, there will always be a special place in my heart for the Green mountain state and upstate New York (although the Catskills are nice, don't consider them "upstate" LOL) due to the breathtaking beauty of the area.

Edit - Just got excited the other day because my wife brought in more maple syrup from Vermont (from the farm she use to work part time as a kid growning up). If you've never tried real maple syrup on ice cream or pancakes, you really have no clue what you're missing;)).
