coastal multitrac tractor fluid

So much discussion and banter but I want to know one thing: is the OPs tractor gear or hydro?
Because to ME the answer to that question makes a difference on how I approach the oil question.
Not considering transmission type when making oil choices is a mistake in my book.

True, and that means them ALL even Orange.

I don't quite understand how Orange could embellish their own recommended fluids to meet their own specs.
Does not make any sense!
They have their own fluids made to their own specs.
There would be no need to embellish anything!

Excellent point RickB.
My old gear tractors didn’t seem like they cared what tractor fluid you used. Some the wet brakes worked better with a particular brand. Hydrostatic transmissions were more picky. More noise = more cavitation...more wear of expensive parts? There are some top brands probably as good, maybe better as Kubota super UDT. For me I’ll stay with Kubota oil and filters. They work and less to worry about.

I don't think that Kubota is embellishing anything, neither is Green, Blue or Red, but they all have HST oils and they are all good, but they are not in the oil business. The Oil manufactures make it and label it for there brand. So there are other oil companies that also have some quality oils, the problem is which ones? So if it is a UDT SUDT or UDT2 its all OK.
In my case UDT2 is an all purpose oil, but was formulated for cold weather. I live in Florida and UDT work better in warmer weather... Now this was told to my by CITO who makes Mystik® JT-5® product answer line 800-248-4684

Even within the Kubota oils lineup there are differences for me. I would use SUDTII in a hydro but have no problem using UDT in a gear tractor without hydraulic shuttle.

I have said this before: OEM oils are formulated to optimize machine performance so you remain machine brand loyal. Aftermarket oils are formulated to not cause failures in the machines they are used in.

This sounds like some of the oil arguments on FB. If it's an HST you'd be better off using Kubota fluid but you do live in Florida which means you could use Kubota UDT. We're in NC and I'm going to tell you from experience why our son uses SUDT2 below. You use whatever you want but I can tell you that Kubota doesn't make their own fluids but they do specify what additives they want in their fluids. If saving a few dollars is worth it then by all means go cheaper. I can tell that I know for a fact that a Kubota dealership has denied warranty coverage on tractors if you have a problem and they test your fluid and it's not up to spec. Warren used to be the kind of oil you'd find in Family Dollar, maybe it's changed.

"A lot of it depends on where you live. We get temps in the single digits a few times most Winters and the two Kubota's here get used year round especially the L3940HST gets used 365 days a year to feed 1-3 round bales on a cattle feedlot.

Anyway a parts guy at a nearby Kubota dealer told my wife that everyone uses Kubota UDT, the standard stuff not SUDT and not SUDT 2, they changed out the fluid in the L3940 HST in the Spring several years ago. It was ok until Winter came. This tractor is used every single day of the year to feed the herd in a feedlot. As soon as it got down under 20-25 degrees it was like a bucking bronco. Jerky when you took off and jerky when you let up. So it got changed again to SUDT 2 and our son said he could see an immediate difference. It is smooth as before now. I've copied and pasted this into a note because this topic seems to pop up far more than it needs to."

Sam L,

Why don't you call the Coastal phone number and ask them if you use their fluid in your tractor will void the Kubota warranty? I'm curious to know their answer.
