I'm sure the guys in the Pacific Northwest have plenty of issues with massive stumps.

Some of the stumps I see in these pictures would qualify as weeds out here.

That said, our big Doug firs often die of root rot where the roots rot off and what remains of the stump comes up with the tree falling, so easy. If you have enough land to cut wood off of the fall/blow overs. Cedars seem to last forever once dead but often tilt up the roots. Easy. Our big leaf maples need to be poisoned to get rid of the stumps unless you want to dig them out. If you are cutting green trees, yes, the stumps are a bear and I leave them to rot. Takes about 50 years, which I may not see :shocked:

Unless the stumps must be dug out for some reason I just cut them as low as possible an paint them with strong 2,4-D or such and let them rot. most will be gone pretty quickly, within 5 years usually.

Your stumps will be gone in 5 years? I've got stumps from trees I've cut that are 15 years old that I can't budge (well, I probably could if I put in some dedicated time with the backhoe). There are some from a timber harvest that happened before I owned the property that are 20+ years old. They are still at the point where it's just not worth the effort to remove them. If they are not in my way, they just stay right where they are.

MX 5800 with big heavy Skid Pro 4 in 1. 100 year old red oak. Buddy has small mill so he gets my fallen trees. He prefers white oak.

My tractor almost didn稚 make it but, in the end, just enough power.

I receive my new heavy Skid Pro pallet forks today. That would have been better but, got er done!

Initially 400 tons,2600 ft, added 80 tons to complete drive and when itç—´ all over, some day, will probably have to add a bunch more.

My pine tree stumps rot off in about 3-4 years here.. unless... They are from long standing dead trees then the stumps are fatwood and don't really rot at all. Makes good firestarter however..
