I have a Massey Ferguson 2018 MF 1726E. I cannot engage the PTO. The lever will not go forward to engage it. Down below, I see this (attached). IMG_0514.JPG

It looks like that bolt-like object could be turned in or out. Is that what I should try doing?

Thanks.

Does anybody know if there is some kind of adjustment that might be needed to allow me to engage the PTO?

That’s just the switch to keep the tractor from starting with the PTO on.

Perhaps a dumb question, but have you first engaged the appropriate PTO speed (540 or 2000) lever?

Thnx for the response, Irvingj. However on mine I believe there is only one lever/switch associated w/ the PTO--on the floor on the right side.

It must be in the "N" position (to the left in this photo) in order to start the tractor. However I cannot move it to the "540" position, whether the tractor is running or not.

Ok, I finally went at it w/ a giant screwdriver and was just able to pry the lever forward. So I then sprayed the heck out of it from above and below w/ WD-40, and it gradually loosened up!

It's surprising how fast some of those levers will freeze up -
use it his time, works fine, a couple of weeks later, locked

Sorry, my bad -- apparently the 1726 is NOT a SCUT. (My 2310 has a 2000 RPM mid-PTO as well as the rear 540 one.)

In any case, glad you got it fixed! And yes, what tookielee said - get some permanent lube in there. I always treat WD-40 --which works wonders in some situations, for sure-- as a temporary solution.
