Utopia take 2

I really enjoyed my trips to Maine. I would actually consider living there.

I wanted to buy a piece of salt waterfront acreage in Maine in 2005.
Prices were HIGH!
I bought a 34 acre salt waterfront piece in Nova Scotia instead.
Was a little less convenient for me, but about 10% the cost of the equivalent in Maine.

I may have seen someone open carry 1 time. But here in Texas, most of the concealed carry permits are for people you wouldn't mind packing some heat.

Durango CO is the last place I heard about it...

I do know several divorces after moving with a change of lifestyle...

Something about moving from Berkeley to Sun Valley Idaho or Coeur d'alene.

I've seen quite a few open carry folks here in northern Indiana. I've never understood the appeal of open carry. 1. I'd rather keep them guessing. 2. I'd not want to draw attention to myself. Anywho, South Bend probably isn't on anyone's utopia short list, so probably a topic for another thread.

That is a big difference in price!

2 opposite ends of a spectrum

Husband met wife while attending UC Berkeley...

He has Colorado roots and she is 4th generation SF Bay Area...

She liked all the holiday visits over the years but actually living there was more than she bargained for...

It's great when all concerned are on the same page...

Sometimes one person's Utopia is another's H*ll

Man, ain’t that the truth! I love Santa Monica for a few days up to about a week. Same for the Bay Area, Bremerton, Baltimore Inner Harbor, Nashville and many others. But I’d never want to live in any of them.

Yes but.......we're not letting anyone in unless you are a NZ er or NZ citizen. and then you are put up in a hotel and quarantined for 14 days. You then have to pass 2 negative tests on the 3rd and 13th day before being let out into the community.
In the meantime we can carry on as though nothing is happening. No masks, no social distancing, no restrictions on gatherings. Sports events take place. Should you go overseas and return they will charge you $4k for the cost of your quarantine. There are one or two positive cases reported each day but these are among people already locked down in quarantine.

I have been to Durango twice. Stayed at the Strater both times. Cool little place... I could live somewhere like that if it didn't snow.

When we moved from outside of Charlotte to SW Virginia there was a definite culture shock, this very rural county has nothing resembling "city life" . I will say the "native" people here are top notch. Very friendly, willing to help, and incredibly polite. They are not necessarily educated, but very smart in "getting it done". We couldn't be happier with our move, the area, or the people. And... my wife loves me in bib overall's.

I've got to ask. You have no "locals" get busted for making meth?

Don't get me wrong, I consider our area a lot like your's with most of our neighbors and in general overal, but I've found that no matter where I've lived in the US, you have your fair share of pretty much every single type of person you can come across out there. I believe the reason why people think "country folk" are a lot like you described is only due to the fact that you have less people to deal with. Bottom line, it's easier to be nice and go out of your way to help others if you have less people to deal with.

Heck, when I take my vehicles in for service in my town, because the owners know me, they tell me not to worry about paying them if I have to pick up my vehicle after they close (this even happend when one of my mechanics told me where to get my muffler replaced on my truck, and the muffler guy didn't even know me and he told me the same thing). I worked in Charlotte for 2 years, I know this would never happen there:D
