The chief executive of the National Rifle Association and several top lieutenants engaged in a decades-long pattern of fraud to raid the coffers of the powerful gun rights group for personal gain, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday by the New York attorney general, draining $64 million from the nonprofit in just three years.
In her lawsuit, Attorney General Letitia James called for the dissolution of the NRA and the removal of CEO Wayne LaPierre from the leadership post he has held for the past 39 years, saying he and others used the group痴 funds to finance a luxury lifestyle.

It would be interesting to see who's funding that lawsuit. Interesting the lawsuit is being filed by New York. Makes me wonder if Bloomberg pulled strings and pushed for it.

Pretty sure that's where the NRA charity is incorporated so NY taxpayers get to pay for it.

Part of the suit is to claw back members' dues that management quandered on themselves, their families, and associates. Head honcho is accused of setting up a $17,000,000 post retirement package for himself without board approval. If allegations are true, it will gag a maggot.

It's interesting that the lawsuit calls for the dissolution of the NRA. I strongly suspect that the motivation for the lawsuit has nothing to do with any concern for the NRA members' hard-earned money. The goal is to weaken or eliminate the NRA, as part of an overall anti-gun agenda.

Another minor point, the NRA is not a charity.

The NRA is incorporated in Virginia. It is a 501c4 organization for tax purposes.

This would set an interesting precedent. It would probably establish grounds to dissolve almost every labor union in the country.

I vote against all incumbents after six years.

Wayne Lapierre there for 39 years? NRA voters are complicit in diversion of NRA funds to Lapierre.

I voted against Lapierre in every NRA election on principal at least the last 30 years,

NRA member for 45 years.

But it is a non-profit organization so the fact that it may not be a charity is a fine point indeed.
