Yup you are correct to avoid your chit-hole Krown dealer.My Krown dealer has been using the same guy for my install since 2016.Sorry your are not happy with your dealer.Spend your $$ where you choose.I all keep my $$ with my local Krown dealer as I am very happy with the results.

Same here. 2006 Duramax with a 6 speed manual. I got it a year ago with 110,000 miles on it. It looked great and runs like a top. Found a bubble over a fender well, pulled the flares and there it is.....Rust. You can't see the rust with the flares on but it's coming. Still only 113,600 miles and runs like a new one. Guess I'll run it another year or 2 and go bed searching unless I decide to sell it. The rest of the truck is solid. It came out of North Carolina so I can't figure the rust...unless it was dunked in the ocean or a lake a lot with a boat.

Also, funny how OEM vehicles are always more desireable used. All that EXTRA stuff someone paid good money for, just makes a vehicle look more tired and old. Like an old lady with way too much makeup! lol And sweat pants that Read JUICY!

I found myself quite pleased last night coming home after a day on the road in my 6.6. Still under 200KMS, purring along at highway speed doing around 1100 RPMs. Fuel gauge took quite a beating, from filled in the morning after 300KMS or so! I never really got used to that. BUT, for occassional use (more and more) I would rather spend a little more on fuel, and drive where I am going, then a lot on repairs and find myself walking.

My Local Krown dealer was a great consciensious guy. Without telling customers, he sold out and some kids are doing it. So that's it for Krown. Cancelled my annual appointment and will just go to my regular Mechanic (and customer). His stuff actually smells the same. I had actually become kind of suspicious of Krown as they are heavily environmentally oriented. Show me something that actually works that isn't really bad for the planet!

I have to ask, what is a Krown dealer?

It's what the realestate industry keep saying - location, location, location. Over the 38+ years out here I've had six brand new vehicles. The longest resident - 1982 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup - 13 years.

WITHOUT exception - all six vehicles looked like brand new - top & underside - when traded in. I have never specifically washed the underside of any of the vehicles. Actually - I seldom wash my vehicles. After a thorough washing - the vehicle is completely covered in dust & volcanic ash within 24 hours. I wash my vehicles to remove bird poop & cow doo.

Anyhow - the other side of this picture. I gave my 2002 Toyota pickup to my son in 2012. The running boards had dropped off - from rust - and the complete underside showed signs of heavy rust within five years.

I live out in the country. The County Highway Dept keeps their winter sand in heated storage facilities. The never use a speck of salt with their sand and never use liquid highway deicer. My son lives in Spokane. I swear, on a stack of comic books, they mix their winter sand - 50/50 with rock salt. They also use some type of "miracle" winter deicing fluid on the intersections.

I make it a point to drive my new Taco Wagon into Spokane, in the winter, only in the most dire of circumstances.

My new Taco Wagon( 2018 Ram 2500 Power Wagon) is completely undercoated - side to side, front to back. Time will tell if this is a good idea. All I know about this undercoat - it's a LineX product. I take it in to LineX, in Spokane, for maintenance check, annually. Up on the lift - lightly pressure wash the entire underside - then they spray a light coat on the compete underside. Just one of the benefits of an extended vehicle warrantee.

No winter deicing products ever used plus extremely dry conditions = very little rust on anything.

I’m tempted to do the underside of my RAM, but I wonder if fluid film at $5/can in the most vulnerable places and rare, if ever, driving in salt would be nearly as effective?
I had 3 Ford Superduties. The 250 & 350 were used to plow and although they were washed thoroughly after being run in salt, after 10 years, they started showing signs of rust. Not surprised and I was able to keep it very minimal with thorough was washing.
My 550 was never used to plow and was always garaged. Never a speck of rust on the 550. My 3500HD was not used for plowing, no rust on it, either.

90% of rust is the road salt.

^ I think so. If one could just never drive on salty roads, and regularly wash off the vulnerable areas of the truck, you'd be fine for decades. Salt is the killer, IMO.

Another short story. Anchorage, AK is famous for its winter weather. It's never gets that cold - think Fairbanks if you want winter cold. Even Doofy, there in Glennallen, sees some really cold wx.

No - it's the way Anchorage get its weather. They get winter snow that melts and creates black ice. A real joy for winter driving. Remember, Anchorage is a costal town - much like Seattle - only colder. So - from our first times in Anchorage - it alway was sand/salt mix everywhere. Cars rusted out so fast - you could have "body drop" on the way to work.

Finally folks wised up and with a bond issue they went from sand/salt to straight sand. The bond issue paid for heated storage sheds for the sand. Salt was no longer needed to keep the sand fluid in the winter. We all understand, don't we, part of the reason for a salt/sand mix is to keep the sand fluid in the winter.

Anyhow - the initial test runs went so well - within five years it was straight sand throughout the municipality. Sure, there was still body rust. But NOTHING like in previous years.
