Meat the tractor that almost put me 6' under 45 years ago, a 1948 Case vac, well its close, this one has all the paint. Its the tractor my father had and when he worked in the woods he had half-tracks on it, the last time it was running was back in the 80s. I remember it being like all old tractors, to high speeded in low gear but father loved it, he hauled lots of wood with it back in the day when pulpwood was worth more when de-barked. Notice the air-ride suspension seat............

Nice rig. My fathers farmall sits in the shed now....family fued keeps it there, but I'd love to get it out again. Been 10 years I say since it was running. I found that fast in first gear too.

When I was a kid, dad had two tractors and I bought one of them back from the farmer that he sold it to.

It's a Farmall BN and the farmer converted it into a fork lift, some day it's going to be put back the way it was when dad farmed with it.

You can make anything you want out of ash, but be prepared for it to rot really fast with ground contact!

I think that's why I have a fondness for the old tractors really. Reminds me as a kid pulling firewood with it. He grew up on a small farm so they used them quite a bit. But just after I showed up his family had a feud, grandfather died and it sat then for a long time. When I was young he got it going again but all we did with it was to transfer firewood with it from an old hayfield across the river to our home a mile away. Terrain is so bad here that generally a tractor doesn't work that well for wood. Although one time many used them for that purpose. That's also a reason I like the tractors and firewood thread. Most nowadays Most don,t have tractors and because of the rough ground both hilly, and soft, many cut wood with snowmobiles or atvs. But I certainly miss those days of listening to that farmall chugging away with loads of firewood. I bet we hauled two cords of yellow birch behind that at a time. I know people would turn their heads if they saw me pulling wood with those winches like you fellows have. Most here have never seen one before. Hoping my job is still around after this covid slump, I get this house finished, I’m to get one.

Oldpath, how much wood would he pull behind that little case? How many horsepower was that?

Sure does . We sell a ton of it rough and dressed for all kinds of interior moulding, cabinetry and light duty furniture. I have also made a fair amount of interior doors with it over the years.

Wow that must of been loud when it hit, what was you doing when the storm came having dinner? I need my ceiling fans, so hopefully that nothing more at your place got damage, I hardly ever get a bad lightning storm here but I know it's nothing to fool around with like dont be outside leaning against a tree.

I was out burning some old burn piles when the storm came up, started raining pretty hard so I went in. The one that hit the house hit just as I was getting out of the shower!! I'm a little worried about my well pump also, middle of the night last night I had almost no water pressure.. seems fine this morning but we'll have to see, fingers crossed!
Yeah, I need my ceiling fans too, bought a replacement yesterday and will install it today.
Sure hope I don't have to pull my well to replace that pump!!!!!

You keep your coffee either way I don’t drink that stuff but it’s poplar. The fact that tractor actually lifted it and the green end is a giveaway.

Not sure how green it is, looks like that bark is sluffing off pretty good.

Ooops, looks like that was already pointed out...

I know what thats like my disagreeable older brother sold that old Case for junk after the parents got to old to care back in the late 80s, wish I still had it for memory sake, parents and older brother are long gone now just like that tractor.
