In the last few years, I've noticed that when a lady singer hits the high notes it hurts my ears. I'm sixty-nine, have any of you other geezers noticed this problem?

Is it live or is it memorex?

I just notice unending high pitch noise, always.

Not necessarily high pitches but there are some frequencies I can no longer hear even though I basically have very good hearing...peeps not speaking clearly can also be an issue...

My hearing is so good I can hear noises that aren't even there. I think it's called tinnitus. If regular sounds are too high in pitch I can't hear them at all. I spent too much time around jets in my youth.

Thanks to everyone.
EarPlug your suggestion that I might have a mild case of Hypercussis, seems to fit best so far. I'll be thinking about that.

If your Peeps are speaking at all, you may have a bigger problem.

Yeah, in my case a combination of loud music and power equipment. I use hearing protectors now, but didn't for many years.
I've always had problems following conversations in noisy environments, though in that regard my left ear is a little better than the right. People probably think I'm being rude when I turn my head away when they're speaking, but it's actually to put my "good" ear towards them.

As far as high frequencies go, yeah they're gone. My wife will ask me if I hear something (a bird tweeting, insects chirping, etc.) and I don't hear a thing. My low frequency hearing is better than hers though.

Those of you with a loss of high frequencies are probably not hearing some of the sounds that make up words as in the sounds with "th", "sh", and some of the "ch". The vowels are in the lower frequencies. Unfortunately I have a loss in both low and high, but the center is fine. I just don't understand this new language where only part of the word is spoken. Hearing aids only help some.

Maybe as we get older we become less tolerant to “Bitching”
