High pitch and old age

/ High pitch and old age #11
I'm 77 and having been losing my hearing for the past few years. When my Mom was in her late 70's & early80's she had trouble with higher pitch voices. For instance my wife and I would go visit her regularly and when my wife said anything most of the time my Mom would ask me "What did she say?" It was kind of embarrassing but we understood her situation.

Getting old sucks!

Getting to hate watching the News. All female except for the anchor. When the ladies are speaking, I miss most of the first sentence because it seems garbled. I can usually get the rest of the story after that. I miss Paul Harvey.

In the last few years, I've noticed that when a lady singer hits the high notes it hurts my ears. I'm sixty-nine, have any of you other geezers noticed this problem?

I wish it did. My problem is that all the high frequencies are gone so females talking sound like gibberish...or is that normal?

If your Peeps are speaking at all, you may have a bigger problem.

It just occurred to me that my hearing loss is in the range of the pitch of my wife's voice.

For those of us that suffer from tinnitus...Gary Larson figured it out...

Learn to discern...
Proper nouns begin with a capital letter i.e., "Peep"

Abbreviations for common words do not..i.e., "peep"

BTW, IMO Peeps are best when they get a little stale (firmer)...!

Yeah, in my case a combination of loud music and power equipment. I use hearing protectors now, but didn't for many years.
I've always had problems following conversations in noisy environments, though in that regard my left ear is a little better than the right. People probably think I'm being rude when I turn my head away when they're speaking, but it's actually to put my "good" ear towards them.

As far as high frequencies go, yeah they're gone. My wife will ask me if I hear something (a bird tweeting, insects chirping, etc.) and I don't hear a thing. My low frequency hearing is better than hers though.
Same here, too much exposure to noise at work plus using chain saws and weed eaters with no hearing protection. I take precautions now but the damage is done.

I never even considered it might be my hearing. I thought so many (mostly younger) women intentionally talked all nasally, like valley girls.
