A lot of the sources are the exact same...(Who would pay for studies that show masks are not as effective as what some are saying?)...FYI...What they (the studies) don't say speaks volumes for for those with differing opinions from those trying to prove the effectiveness...

Like I said...most of the studies say "can" and "may" be effective...in preventing the spread...
Without knowing how many of the reported (positive) cases by mask wearers there is no way the "science" can be accurate...regardless of what any research shows or does not show... it's all supposition and conjecture...that's reality realize it or not...!

I'm not saying politicians aren't twisting things to fit their narrative. That's pretty obvious from the highly varied responses by state.

I'm saying the scientists that don't have any skin in the game, per say, and aren't up for election/reappointment are simply trying to find the truth.

I'm not trying to be snarky when I say this (tone doesn't always come through right via text) but individuals keep saying "there are plenty of scientific studies showing masks don't work," but yet no one can cite/link to a single peer-reviewed scientific article that supports this position.

Yet, there are a litany of studies that show face coverings do decrease infection risk, and I'm happy to point to them if so interested.

Cloth masks don't protect you, they protect other people from you. The idea is if everyone has one, the spread stops. Not wearing one says you don't give a **** about anyone else.

I must disagree with the idea that money and politics don稚 influence research, I think they do.

I almost went on a rant but controlled myself.

I will say this.....I worked with scientists, professors and engineers for years. Just like everyone else, good, bad, motivated, unmotivated.

Last comment.....I learned this years ago. A tenured professor in the US is the least stressful job out there.

This has already been addressed. (See post 223). Every study listed there is related to seasonal influenza, not SARS-CoV-2. Different viruses behave differently.

Furthermore, as FatJay pointed out, each of those studies only looks at the effectiveness of masks and their ability to protect the individual. As the extensive literature shows, and as has been explained here in this thread, masks stop the expiration of infected droplets. So, they protect others more than they protect you.

Understanding this, the results of each of those studies makes perfect sense. Have a control group wear a mask (no one else in public does) and people with masks still get sick. This is precisely what scientists have been saying.
