Growing up all real farmers wore bib overalls, boots and long sleeve shirts. Even in the summer. Got hot out time to roll the sleeves up. Amish around me now allowed to wear short sleeves.

Guess times change.

Lot of the farmers I knew wore bib overalls, but I stuck to jeans. When I was growing up, I had to wear overalls because they were cheap...about half the price as Levis. It was a stigma; only the poor kids wore overalls, and I hated it...and we lived in a very poor area of Missouri. To be part of the "gang", you had to wear a Captain Marvel sweatshirt and Levis. I swore when I got to the place where I could buy my own clothes, I would never...I mean NEVER...wear another pair of overalls...and I haven't. Besides. If you've ever neglected your suspenders (gallouses they were called) when Mother Nature called, you were constantly reminded of your error.

Went for a run in my flip-flops the other day. Haven't had sex for so long wanted to be reminded what it sounded like.

You dang Kiwi, that made me laugh out loud all the way up here!.. :)

Same stigma here. Course we grew up within spitting distance of each other. I have NEVER worn another pair of overalls after I grew up. It is a mental thing.

Nothing makes me feel less than a man, as when my lady friend adjusts the bra straps on my overalls for me. Like, just stand still already! lol

Flip flops and fire ants... Self correcting situation. :cool2:

yes it is .... the ant hill will be washed or mowed away in short order. I'm all for live and let live, but when fire ants attack it's time for some mass insecticide by any means necessary.

Though I've found that hitting ant hills while doing my weekly mowing generally gets the message across and the ants voluntarily move out.:cool:

Have and enough experiences with fire ants since moving to Alabama 13 yrs ago to know the type of footwear just changes where you're bitten. :smiley_aafz:

Grew up spending a lot of time running around my grandparents' farm barefoot so I'm not going to judge a person's choice in footwear unless it's entirely unsafe for the task at hand.

Speaking of which I still have semi-fond memories of running out to fire the furnace at 3-4am on cold Minnesota winter mornings at my parents' place ...while barefoot and wearing shorts and a t-shirt. The trick was to always keep moving and minimize the time spent standing still

Having said that I'm not one for wearing flip-flops, has to be a full sandal that holds the heel and toes.... also much easier to wear a pair of socks with that style if that little bit of extra warmth is needed. :D
