Growing up all real farmers wore bib overalls, boots and long sleeve shirts. Even in the summer. Got hot out time to roll the sleeves up. Amish around me now allowed to wear short sleeves.
Guess times change.
Lot of the farmers I knew wore bib overalls, but I stuck to jeans. When I was growing up, I had to wear overalls because they were cheap...about half the price as Levis. It was a stigma; only the poor kids wore overalls, and I hated it...and we lived in a very poor area of Missouri. To be part of the "gang", you had to wear a Captain Marvel sweatshirt and Levis. I swore when I got to the place where I could buy my own clothes, I would never...I mean NEVER...wear another pair of overalls...and I haven't. Besides. If you've ever neglected your suspenders (gallouses they were called) when Mother Nature called, you were constantly reminded of your error.
