I'm wondering if it's possible to install one of these pressure guages on my 4 ton woodsplitter, I've located one plug on the splitter that I'm hoping is a candidate for hooking the guage up, would this work? also what range of pressure do I need? thanks in advance.

I’d use your 3000 peak gauge because I doubt it’s over that but possibly over 2000. Do you have a picture of the plug? Next question what’s the point?

The pressure gauge on my 30 year old homemade splitter is a check on the condition of the pump. Sometimes, a knot or crotch is too tough for the splitter. Looking at the gauge tells me instantly what's the problem. I would use the 5 k gauge myself. It'll be more resistant to the pressure pulses of the pump. One doesn't need accuracy, just relative pressure reading.

I'll post a picture, the point is just curiosity and I like knowing whats going with things mechanical.

this is the only available spot I can find to plug it in, do I use anything on the threads?

I just put a Tee on the pressure line. Used a 3000 psi gauge. I use a little Teflon tape on pipe thread fittings but feep it back acouple threads. It's been on there for 7 years now.

That photo shows a 5000 psi gauge. Also, the OP should use a hydraulic Tee not some brass or plumber's fitting.

Use a gauge that will put expected maximum pressure in the middle of the gauge's range.
Do not use Teflon tape, use paste. Teflon tape is fine if applied correctly, but can get into the system if applied wrong, or during disassembly.
Tee in high pressure line. Use hyd rated tee.

Interesting location, I was told proper location would be on output side of control valve that is actually feeding cylinder (A or B port) to give accurate reading on actual cylinder pressure.... And then calculate out tonnage....

high pressure line with a tee. doesnt matter which end, pressure will be the exact same.
