I've got some yellow jackets that seem to have made a nest behind a chimney on the outside of the house. Some of the sprays I've tried kills the ones I see, but don't think the potency is enough to kill off the ones further in. I used to have some cans of spray I had acquired when I worked for an electric utility company years ago (can't recall the name) and the stuff I'm buying lately doesn't seem to have the same strength. I don't know if Federal/State regulations for this stuff have limited the toxicity for what is sold now.

What are you using that works well?

Used Tempo for YJ in my soffits- it's a powder so you need an applicator-as wasps fly through it they carry into the nest.
Be careful- YJ leave guards out until all of the nest is back in at night-even found a few guards slightly after sunset.

I've had a few wasp issues myself. I do not go after the nest during the day - always after dark, and then with caution because they are not all sound sleepers. Ideally wait until December or January and remove the nest.

I've found the foam wasp/hornet killer works best for me.

I've found the foam wasp/hornet killer works best for me.

Two nights ago I went after a football sized hive in the shed. There was about 8 standing guard and I hit them with my foamy Hot Shot spray. Man, that hive woke up right NOW! I hit them with more foam just as they zeroed in on me. Most were falling on the ground and crawling around when one got on my hand holding the flashlight. I shook my hand and broke the light against the stack of firewood. Now I was in the dark in the cluttered shed with pissed off yellow jackets trying to find me. I got out without getting stung, got another light, and looked at all the YJs squirming on the ground. The next morning every single YJ was gone from the ground.......skunk?

Note for anybody going after yellow jacket nest. If you're going after dark using a light, be sure to put the light someplace where you aren't as they will be attracted to the light and you can spray them there if needed.

Malathion to kill the wasps and saturate the nest.
Then, Bifen I/T around the area (Under eaves trough, along barn walls etc.) to discourage further infestations.
I spray the walls of my barn with the Bifen to keep down the mud daubers & spiders , as well. As there is I food source to attract them.
