Why are we even arguing this anymore?

My belief is the answer is because some people just don't seem able or willing to accept that someone else knows more about a topic than they do, no matter how much proof on a topic is provided. If you read through this thread, it's really quite sad.

You just repeated the idea that masks are to protect others, not the wearer, so it doesn't matter if they get wet inside and you infect yourself. How many times has that been stated on here, including to the same people you just responded to? Multiple, yet it appears they still don't get it. Clearly, they have no desire to learn and educate themselves. I find that very disheartening.

It took us 800+ posts, but my sad takeaway from all of this has been that for a surprisingly non-negligible portion of the population, reason, logic, and proof can be da**ed. The sentiment seems to be, "I know more with my high school education than any other expert that has been studying these topics for years, so there is no way I'm going to listen to anybody else that tells me to do something different than what I want to do."

It makes me very fearful for society when having an education, and trying to base decisions off of verifiable facts, is seen as a bad thing.

My GOD, You are realizing that much of society knows nothing and has never known much of anything, AND has all kinds of beliefs based on what they have merely been TOLD!

There also comes a time, as with my lady friend, that knowledge is just too painfull, so let's just do anything but.

I think I mentioned that I have a coworker who was very anti-mask. Said it was stupid. Said it did no good. Said he didn't like being told what to do, etc...

The main thing I kept getting from him in our conversations was that he didn't like people looking at him like he was infected. He was insulted by that. Just downright furious.

He and his kid had a health scare and had to stay home until the covid tests came back negative. They came back negative, and he walks into work and asks me if I'll look at him any different now since he tested negative. I told him "No. I'll still consider you infected 24/7" The test only proved you didn't have it at the time you took the test. Heck, the person giving you the test could have given you the virus at the same time.

I told him I look at him with anger when he fights the mask issue, and I'd expect him to look at me the same way; as an inconsiderate individual. He should assume everyone is infected, including me, as I do towards him. By him wearing a mask, he was showing that he didn't want to possibly infect any of his coworkers, our customers, me, my wife, and my wife's elderly parents, who depend on us, etc...

He finally got it when they had another health scare and had to get tested again. He now realizes it isn't that hard. He can sit in his office without a mask. He can ride around in the work trucks by himself without a mask. He can go outside and have a smoke, etc... it's only when other people are around that he masks up. Everyone in our group now does it. We all complain loudly to each other, but we complain about everything. It's not that hard. It's just like wearing a scarf in winter. It's just a piece of clothing at this point.

LMAO...Obviously you are the one with the lack of reading comprehension skills...I stated from the onset I was aware of the main purpose of the advisory to wear masks in public... I also stated many times that it is prudent to wear masks when in close proximity of others...and obviously you don't know what "IMO" means....!
...The problem is you are so full of yourself you can't fathom the thought that you are not the clearing house on the subject of wearing masks...You have provided NO proof of anything other than what some studies contend...

And BTW (that means "by the way") FYI (that means "for your information")...there are many here with way more than just a HS education myself included...way more...it's mostly Internet trolls that wave their academic creds around like gang colors thinking they are impressing a peanut gallery...

At one time I had a very bad boss at work. I mean, he was a great project manager, but horrible with/to his employees. He chased about 4-5 people out of his department before he inherited me. He'd protect you from other managers if they were wrong, but he'd just treat all of us like inferior beings. I wasn't going to be treated like that, and let him know it. I kept trying to reason with him as to why this or that wasn't the correct way to do things, how he should treat people, etc... After a while, and in return for my sage advice, he sent me to the employee assistance program as a condition of my employment. :laughing: I had to go for 6 months and we'd reevaluate my employment at that time.

So I go there and they send me to a psychologist, and he meets with me twice and hands me his author-signed copy of How To Live With a "Neurotic" at Home and at Work and tells me I need it more than he does.

He said my boss is broken. Wired defectively. And I'm trying to fix him. By continuing to try and fix him, it's becoming detrimental to my mental health.
