When my father worked for the Post Office (in a very small rural facility) I would read his magazines from the Postal Union. I was amazed at how militant and "looking for a fight" they were. The restrictions on work categories and assignments were epic.

That explains a lot about the situation.

I've always felt that many of the "cutbacks" implemented several years ago were more for spite than to cut costs. PO hours always have been terrible; now they are ridiculous.

Recently my mail has slowed drastically some packages I have been tracking haven't move in over a week. I am waiting for a document that was mailed 8/15/20 and hasn't arrived as of 8/25/20.

I think the USPS should bump the cost of a letter (stamp) to $1 and double all the other discounted rates they give for bulk. That's still a heck of a deal that no other delivery service can provide. It would reduce some of the junk mail and reduce their overall letter volume allowing them to provide quicker service and reduce losses.

That’s certainly a good 1st step.

Every other year or so they send out a questionnaire asking how we felt about cutting Saturday delivery. We tell them "Fine, don't really need mail delivered 6 days a week". We still have mail delivered 6 days a week. Go figure.

^^ I sometimes don't get mail for 4 or 5 days at a time, so they could go to Tuesdays and Fridays and I wouldn't miss much.
