Nothing gets your adrenaline going like grabbing a nice, large pear off the tree only to feel it start vibrating in your hand, turn it around, and see 4 hornets in a hole on the other side looking out at you.

They come for the rotting pears on a hard pear tree in our back yard. They like the sugar. Maybe even get a little drunk.

Isn't that just freaking great....

Now, FIRST, I thought the picture was of the 'Pod Wasps' who are slowly taking over the wasp population..... now, we find out we have drunk hornets who, on a random night, might take simple delight in stinging you in the azz.... just because they can.

No wonder we all love them.

Time to post this again! Try this on the next bee/wasp/hornet sting...apply a little juice from an onion directly on the sting and it will stop the pain almost instantly. Yeah, I know it sounds stupid. I was mowing around a Rose of Sharon, knocked a bloom off into my lap. Brushed it away, and a bumblebee got me in the palm of my hand. My Dad was sitting on the porch, and he said to put some onion juice on it and it will kill the pain. I thought, "yeah right. Old wives tale". But, I did it any way to humor him. To my surprise, it really worked...and I was amazed. It won't do anything for the swelling, but killing the pain is great!

That's all I need is onion juice flooding my eyes. I got hit in the face by about 7-8 yellow jackets. Mostly on the right cheek and temple but one went up my nostril curling up and stinging the outside of my nose. The whole time I'm dancing around with my eyes closed swatting at my nose to get him to let go. The side of my face swelled up like a grapefruit. I took some antihistamine (Benadryl) for the swelling then applied ammonia to the bites. I've always had those "Bite Sticks" around for stings. It's made with ammonia and has a fiber dauber built in. That works well to ease the pain. I hope I never have to use the onion. :D

^^^ At least then you'd have two things to cry about!

Laugh if you will........ About eight years ago I had my first encounter with Bald Faced Hornets. I was out raking grass. One came out of nowhere - hit me so hard on the forehead - almost brought me to my knees. I don't think it was, so much, the force of the impact. It was that something so big, black & fast had just whacked me - dead center on the forehead. He wasn't out to sting me - he wanted to chew off a hunk of my hide.

Three days later I found the nest. Just a little bit bigger than a softball. It burned like a Super-Nova in the night sky.

Once again - I have a nest of BF Hornets. Out there somewhere. They have showed up at the hummingbird feeder about ten days ago. I AM on guard.

Years ago I was cleanning out a horse stall and the same thing happened . . . hit in the forehead by those terrible creatures . . . d@mn near knocked me out! I found their village and distroyed it!

I know a sting can be very serious to some people.... so I'm sorry you went through that... now, with that said, the image you describe, if we could transpose it over to a scene from the three stooges, I found it a bit humerous. I'm glad it didn't become something worse for you.

(said from someone who had/has sting allergies and spent 5 years going to allergist to get shots to dull their effect)

I thought for sure someone would know what this was by now. I know I sure don't though. I think the best way to find out is to 'knock-knock' by the door and see what pokes it's head out.

Don't do that! You could go down in the TBN annals... right next to "pallets in field", "Stuck drain plugs" and "holes in barn floor".
In Kando's defense he did give us some closure after a year of entertainment.
