Well I really didn’t do that much work. I hadn’t been to the site yet. Giving quotes is no doubt my least favorite thing to do.

I usually only got maybe 25% of my bids. I figured if you get all the jobs, your bidding too low. If you get no jobs, you are bidding too high. At about 25% acceptance i was making good profits and kept very busy. Personally I could not handle too many accepted jobs.

Funny thing is, sometimes i bid a particular job way too high hoping i would lose the job for one reason or another, and end up getting that job. They end up being good money makers, but still hate getting the job.

Im so glad i retired. I dont miss it at all. All i do now is home standby generator service at fixed rates. I can do quotes over phone, site unseen.

I’m not the thread police. I don’t really care and I’m sure there’s good information here for someone else putting in a gate opener.

I致e got a customer wanting me to run a wire underground for a gate opener. They don稚 have the opener yet to look at the amperage but I don稚 think theyæ±*e very many. Electric charts suggest like 6 gauge but I壇 have a hard time believing 12 gauge and 10 for good measure wouldn稚 work. I haven稚 measured the distance but itç—´ like 150 feet.

Funny how many guys jump in and argue about wire gauge you should use when you havent even defined the basics of DISTANCE, VOLTAGE and AMPS. Stop pulling numbers out of your arses, theres usually something called an electrical safety code which tells you the required wire gauges, no guesswork required.

Probably a good safe starting point would be 240VAC 20A. Now measure the distance from the drop to the electrical panel.
