I didn't read it that way.

I read it as he pulled out onto the road and a car traveling at high speed came up on him after he was out there. A vehicle that was not within his view at the time he pulled out.

I'm the op and that is exactly what happened. The clown was coming down the dirt road at warp factor one. When I swung into the road, he was (in my estimate) fat enough away from me to be able to control his vehicle). Pretty hard to estimate speed at a distance. By the time I got out in the road, he was on me and sliding all 4 wheels. He slid by me on the loose dirt, flipped me off and hammered down again.

Speed limit on any unmarked road in Michigan is 55 which, IMO is way too fast and this guy must have been doing 80.

The vehicle was in my view as I pulled out but was a long ways off, far enough that I felt I had the room to get out in the road without incident. There was no incident but it was close and I didn't have anything on the back, just the tractor.

Tractor in my avitar is the tractor I was driving.

When I was a kid, it seemed like every 2 lane road had DOT signage installed watch for farm machinery
Not now!

Yes, we still got those type of signs, but lots of them are shot full of holes. Kids use them for target practice. I had the county put up "No Dumping" signs around my ranch only 6 months ago, and those are already perforated.

5030 - I'm glad to read that you and your tractor are still in good shape and able to relate this incident. When I go out and plow out the mail box area I have two of those collapsible plastic saw horses. Place one - dead center of the road - 100 yard up/down the road from the mailbox area.

That gets their attention and slows them down.

The OP's description isn't all that uncommon, nor is it limited to farm vehicles. There's a store I frequent which has about a 1/2 mile of view and a 45 mph speed limit. Too often I found myself pulling out in front of a vehicle way out in the distance, thinking I had plenty of time; only to have them on my tail in seconds, then flying by with the obligatory one finger wave. So one day I timed myself getting out and up to speed, then measured the distance where I normally would see them. They have to be doing at least 70 mph in that 45 zone, to come up on me as fast as they do.

I also think some people speed up when you pull out the that way he describes.

Inconsiderate drivers here in Kentucky include farm families as well. We live on county road just barely wide enough for two vehicles to pass each other that I keep the shoulders cut on since the county only shows up when there is some repair needed, eventually. Otherwise you never see em'. So like I said I mow the shoulders so the road does not seem more narrow than it already is from the growth leaning into the pavement. There are some renters on the road that travel at warp speed anytime they are out but do slow slightly when meeting the tractor. One in particluar whose husband pasted away several years ago and was a farmer who travelled this very road on tractors is the worst. Recently I was out mowing and got to the place where I turn around, at the base of a hill, to head back on the other side of the road, no car in site. I was half way though making the turn when she topped the hill 600+ feet away and accelerated, HARD. I just barely got the mower out of the road in time. Went past like I was not even there and yes flashers and lights were on. This woman knows only one speed, WIDE OPEN.

^^ I have one like that. Self entitled is an understatement. Has had more than one wreck including a near-rollover and a couple of road runoffs. So far, it's only been her, no other vehicles involved. Did some time for embezzlement too, but got out early. That didn't do anything to clip her wings.

That would be my thinking also, but legally it may not be true.

It's illegal to pass a vehicle at an intersection in Indiana.

We have a few close calls every year with the tractors.
Most of our roads have very limited sight distances because of the hills and curves and trees.
I would have to say that most of our traffic has slowed down this year, with a few exceptions.
Our general practice when making a left turn is to swing over into the center of the road prior to making a left turn,
thats on the state roads. The county and Town roads are narrow enough that we normally use the middle half or 3/4's
slowing down and often dropping a gear or two when meeting traffic and then promptly moving back over and speeding up.
No, I am not going to put my tires down in the ditch to allow a car to pass me, most places on the secondary's there is not a safe place to do so, encouraging them to pass me is putting them out in the way of on coming traffic which I might be able to see but they can't.

Y’all wouldn’t believe our roads. They’re like wagon trails with some pavement and little paint markings. And we have @ssclowns pouring in here from NY and Philly. Just a matter of time until I’m roading between fields and someone hits me.
