I recently purchased my first tractor, LS MT 345e and want to know what the proper torque is for the wheel bolts and nuts.
Do the bolts torque at different settings than the nuts? Do the front wheels torque the same as the rear wheels? I have seen a few videos where these things do apply to some manufacturers.
Secondly I assumed all the hardware would be metric but it seems a 15/16 socket fits the wheel bolts/nuts much better than any of the metric sockets I just bought.

Check your manual. Mine had the rear wheel and disc values listed, just not in a really noticeable area of the manual. Since the nuts/bolts are the same size for the front, I set them the same. (165 ft-lbs for my MT240). And a 22mm socket is what the MT240 requires.

SAE bolts will have the hash marks on the head for bolt grade (3 for grade 5, 6 for grade 8). Metric bolts have the grade indicated by a number. The lug bolts on my R3039 are 10.9, which is metric equivalent to grade 8 SAE.

My owners manual does not have lug bolt/nut torque specs either. However, my manual for the loader does have a generic torque list. If the threads on the bolts and nuts are the same, the torque will be the same.

Was able to swing by the dealer this morning and asked. They looked it up and told me 130-145 ft lbs, front and rear.
Thanks for the replies.

I would think your tractor being larger than mine would have equal or higher torque values.

When refitting the wheels or/and rim disk, tighten the bolts and nuts to the following torques then check periodically as the instructions of chapter 5 in this manual.

① Rim-disk nuts (M16) : 220 ~ 270 N.m
(163 ~ 199 lbf.ft)

② Wheel nuts (M16) : 216 ~ 245 N.m
(159 ~ 181 lbf.ft)

For me, when I check the wheel bolt torque, I simply use a socket with an extension on a breaker bar. The extension is because I cannot fit the breaker bar inside the wheel. If I can move the bolt, its too loose. And I tighten the crap outta it. I think to actually gain the proper torque, you need a torque multiplier, something like this:

Neiko ?3716B 3/4" Torque Multiplier Power Wrench, Cr-Mo / Cr-Va Steel | 2, 2?? Foot-Pound - - Amazon.com

I looked up the specs once, a long time ago, and came to the realization that my good Snap-On torque wrench does not go that high. So I simply converted the book torque spec to the German torque spec of "gootntight'

I have a torque wrench that goes to 250 ft-lb I use with a short extension for the wheels.

I had found a 3/4" drive Neiko Torque adapter that went to 800 or 1000 ft-lb I considered getting for the Bush hog blades as they require 600 ft-lb.

Alan congratulations!!!

Call your dealer service manager and see if they have a torque chart. Should be able to email you one.
Also look up a metric torque chart for nuts and bolts.

Edit: Correction, 24mm fits the lugnuts on the R1 wheels on my MT240!
