Who makes a work truck with creature comforts?

They took the cost of adding a work light and used these $$$ to instal more cup holders. If I put a Miller Hi-Life in every cup holder on the Taco Wagon - probably exceed the gross allowable payload. For sure - some passengers would have to have a beer in each hand.

However - I DO appreciate the Ram Box feature. Great way to transport ice and beverages.

Riddle me this: why have some great features shriveled up and died? My 93 Silverado had a detachable work light under the hood with a 6ft retractable cord. My 2005 Sierra had a fixed work light under the hood. My 2010 yukon has NO light. True the trucks last longer now, but are the designers so arrogant as to think they're so reliable that nobody will ever need a light under the hood?
If your Yukon was a top trim line, it would have the light. Things like that are often eliminated from the low trim levels.

Interesting story, in 2014 my wife bought a new Chevy Malibu 2SA mild hybrid. The 2SA trim package is the full blown fully loaded version of the mild hybrid.

Her friend also bought a 2014 bare/base Malibu LS. Her friend asked me to detail it a year later, I went to pick the car up and drive it back to my shop and I couldn't believe it was the same make, model and year. It rode like crap, tire and road noise was horrible and all around felt like cheap garbage.

It was an $18K version of my wife's $34K car. And they must have put junk shocks, less insulation and cut every cost they could in building the low trim line version. I made my wife drive it and she couldn't believe it.

It's more than just the fancy leather seats, the manufactures cut cost to sell Jim over there a Ram 2500 tradesman for $38K while I buy the same truck for $58K and Jack up there gets there same make/model/year for $78K.

If you think that tradesman gives the same driving experience as the other guys Limited Longhorn.... Your very wrong. I learned that in 2014 with those Malibu cars.

Point taken, however I would point out that my Yukon is the SLT trim level, which I believe is second only to the Denali (whose owners I expect would be even less like to be rummaging about under the hood). And my 93 Silverado was an SLT as well. The 05 Sierra was a trim level lower, SLE.

But at least all the newer trucks have nice toe hooks under their plastic bumpers. Makes it easier to tow them with. :cool2:

It is weird. I don't even have a glove box light or place for my sunglasses in my 08 SLT Duramax!

I had to shake my head. Listening to a radio Ad for Ram trucks. 0% on 84 Months! I thought I was hearing things. AND, you can SKIP a few first payments.

Saw a VW dealer sign that made a little more sense. 0% or $6000.00 discount.

As for the tow hooks. I had a hard time finding the right thing to fit into those hooks. Just don't accidentally put your knee into the bumper, or it will leave a mark. In the (tuna fish can) bumber, not your knee.

Try getting one with an ash tray LOL. Not that I need one, but I'm sure there are plenty of customers that would appreciate the option.

What other options do they have, to move $85k trucks off the lot (and make room for the $90k ones for next year)? As consumer I think it makes more sense to accept the finance offer than to pay cash (assuming you had $85k laying around). Each month the value your payment represents, is less and less. Sign that paper now, and in 2027 when it's paid off, you'll have paid probably only $75k or $80k in 2027-inflation adjusted dollars. It wouldn't even make sense to pay it off early.

In some trucks at least, you can buy an ash tray as an option. I know that when I was truck shopping that was part of the "build" on the Colorado. Of course "building" one is a complete waste of time and broadband as you can't order it afterwards; rather, they will find you "similar models nearby" which may or may not be close to what you said you're looking for, and could be at a dealer 500 miles and 4 states away.

And have a truck worth $10,000

True. But that's how it works no matter what. Would you rather have a $10k truck that you paid 85k inflation-adjusted dollars for, or a $10k truck that you paid 75k inflation-adjusted dollars for?

This is probably the prime time to go finance a brand new truck at 0% interest and as long a term as possible, before the butterfly effect of all these stimulus checks starts to flutter in and drag the value of the dollar down. You might actually see 2020/2021 model trucks selling for the same price they were brand new in a few years.

well, in 2010 i was going to purchase a new diesel truck, but just could not stomach the cost. instead i paid about 14k for a 2004 diesel f350 with about 35,000 miles on it. had a sticker in glove box that read 58,000. i took the money i saved and added some more and bought a rental house for 130,000. rented that house out at $900 per month continually until last december. sold that house for 224,000. all profit as i had no loan. so on top of all the rent and the $94k profit on the house, i still have a diesel truck with 98,000 miles on ot thats worth about 15K.

i think this was a far wiser use of my money.
