Since free items at HF are getting scarce, I opened up 5 blue flashlights that weren't working properly or at all. Only two had bad batteries. The batteries on the other three weren't making good contact and only needed to be reseated. Had I replaced the batteries in the ones with corrosion issues sooner, the corrosion might not have occurred... All 5 that I worked on are making bright light now.

You have better luck than I. Most of my free HF flashlights have died.

I don't know how the new batteries I put in those lights compare to the ones that come in them. If they're equal it might be less expensive to buy new lights when they're on sale. The time it took to reseat the batteries in the ones not making contact was well spent.

There are some good Alkaline Battery comparison videos on the Internet. If you need reliability and the longest life, the most expensive batteries are the best. But for best value, the cheapest (Like HF) are NOT the best value. Something up the price scale a bit is a better value and quality compromise.

I've watched several of those videos. The difference in lifespans of some of the similar priced batteries was amazing.

I have had the odd Duracell Pro-cell batteries fail after years in storage. They just self discharged over time, the others in the pack were perfect.

I have had too many Duracell and Energizer batteries leak for my liking. I mean, ALWAYS when forgotten and discharged.
