There ya go, interjecting facts again.....
Facts? here's a one. as a culture, we do not value education. IMHO, the most important thing a culture can do is educate the population. A governments goal is exactly the opposite and brother, the govt is winning!
i've lived other places. As an example, in Italy, govt. school teachers are held in much higher esteem than engineers. i was married to a teacher in American school system for 25 years and knew tons of govt. teachers. Not the same.
On the many many occasions I was stuck at big long formal dinners where everyone spoke Italian, I learned to find one of the teenage children and spoke english to them, they loved it, good practice. Played lots of tic tac toe. Most of them knew more American history than I do!
it's not about money, we spend more per student than anyone. Its about caring. I know you care, and I care, but we don't care. We care about television and the NFL.
I've said it before, if you expect good education and don't get it, it's their fault. If you demand good education and don't get it, it's your fault. It's so much easier to say, they were supposed to do it, that's why I pay taxes.
BTW, 99% of the civil servants I've dealt with are pleasant, friendly and I wouldn't call them stupid at all. It takes a certain level of intelligence and common sense to see something, recognize it for what it is, accept it and then take advantage of the situation.
While I do not subscribe to nor practice the philosophy of guaranteed life time employment and all the other bennies related to govt. employment, those that do shouldnt be called stupid for simply taking advantage of a corrupt system. That's exactly what accountants and Lawyers do and some people respect them, not me!
