Looks like your pond could use some TLC.
hugs, Brandi

That it does. But, the cows are gone and it’s not used. It is so grown up with multiflora roses you can barely get to it.
1978 pic of the pond.

2 months after you poured the porch, I left NZ and immigrated to Australia and grew old....... I have had a good life compared to some.

Did you immigrate by yourself, or with your family? For work?

I moved because of the 9 month winters in the south of NZ. with my wife (at the time) and 2 daughters. Youngest turned 3 during the move.
I have since re-married to an Aussie girl and my ex went back to NZ after several failed relationships. Good riddance.
I was a mechanic at the time but eventually found more lucrative work. (Fleet management) Been retired for over 10 years now.
Now I get 9 months of summer. :)

Found in my diary we rebuilt the 8n engine in 1976. We also cut a lot of locust trees to sell that year.
I know there are pictures of the mine props we used to cut, but haven’t ran across them yet.

Can’t find any pics of the pond showing the dock. I also recall pics of us ice skating on the pond, but haven’t run across those pics yet either.

The hill on both sides of pond are steep, and now covered thick with multiflora rose.
The pond has never gone dry, don’t recall it ever getting low.

Lots of good memories.

Cabin down

Right after the blizzard on 26 Jan 1978, the cabin and our smoke house were blown over by high winds.

On apr 9 we hooked up the dozer and pulled it back over. First getting it on the side

Then bringing it on over. In my diary I wrote I was on the dozer pulling it over, I don’t remember that.

I was a Jr in HS, my older brother in college, so we didn’t use the cabin much after that. Eventually the roof blew off and it started to rot away.
But we sure used it several years. Lots of cookouts / picnics back there. We called it the moon lite motel. We rigged up lights inside using batteries. Had bunk bed on one side and single on the other. We used blow up air mattress and sleeping bags.

Cabin is next to woods in this 1980 pic.

You can't buy memories like those. Can't make em playing a video game or watching TV either.

At the time we didn't think much about stuff like that. Looking back now we realize the value.

My boys frequently talk about " remember that time we ---". I'm so glad they had the opportunity to make memories like that, same as I had.
