In about a day, Brave claims:

4,315 Trackers & ads blocked

And the AdBlock extension claims 840 ads blocked. Not sure if these are in addition to, or part of the above.

Just curious if anyone has tried alternatives to facebook? I run an adblock (FBPurity) on there and for awhile you could stay on the old layout. Well they just axed that this week and the new layout is a confusing mess. It seems a bit buggy too. I enjoy staying connected with old friends but am getting fed up with these big tech companies getting too much power and influence. I opened a Minds account but it seems more like Twitter. A tech friend said his wife is using Parler.

My alternative to Facebook is called TractorByNet. I will never join Facebook.

Far as Firefox is concerned it continues its 10 year slide into oblivion. It's time to take a serious look at other Browsers. Browser Statistics

It's great that you're getting off facebook, easily one of the most widespread yet underhanded services out there.

I'm sure you've done a web search for 'alternatives to facebook'. The first link I followed there listed a dozen things I have never heard of, but I suppose that isn't surprising if you want to find an alternative whose whole business model doesn't hinge on monitizing your data to the last penny.

Before the dawn of crimes like facebook, and something you could use now if you want some control over the data, is old fashion email lists, which you can share with friends (they can post to it too), allow people to subscribe etc. Google "what is a listserv" if you are curious. Good luck with your search, wish I had something to suggest but I don't, particularly if you want the Almighty Phone App to go with it.

Or, use and support firefox as an excellent alternative that provides value in its own right, rather than give up on it.

Thread morph, but .....

Foolsbook is an aberration that was never supposed to be. It started out as a college student project for other college students. Somehow people found out they could communicate with students at other colleges, then with alumni and other groups. Then friends and family got involved. As people left college, they stayed with it. Suckerpunk stared seeing dollar signs and well, the rest is a descent into the netherworld it has become.

There was MySpace, GeoCities and several others that have since fallen out of favor. In the past, a company, school, family, social group or whole community would simply get a web hosting account and domain name and load a forum like this one. Anybody fitting the group's profile could join and participate, just like we do here. Then they found out they could get on FB without any of that expense or effort. They never realized that their souls were for sale and that everything they posted would be gathered, stored, shared with entities that paid for it to be able to be used against them. But they've become Lemmings and refuse to or don't know how to leave it. Many FB users are web illiterate and have no idea even how to open an email account. They wouldn't even be on it if their family didn't set it up for them to be able to send pictures of the kids to Granny 500 miles away instead of paying for a postage stamp and sending the pictures by mail.

It's turned into a second internet, sort of a sub internet, but one that is privately owned and operated for profit and manipulation of personal data.

Ummmm, no. Brave is working reasonably well:

26,613 Trackers & ads blocked
3.32GB Bandwidth saved

Brave has a built in 'private mode' that uses a VPN and TOR to further enhance blocking of trackers.

My wife says I don't have the personality to be on Facebook. She might be right based on some things she shows me from there. :)
