I've had an MM installed for 10, maybe 15 years now. Used it for a while while I was still working so open/close twice a day. Lately I only use it a couple of times a month. Mine's on a battery too, but I ran the 12VDC line from my low voltage yard lights to the opener and it keeps the battery charged.

I home made a very light weight gate though using chainlink fence toprail and fittings.

Keep in mind that the cell phone use is for allowing remote opening. If you get a phone call, see a delivery truck or guest on the security camera you then open the gate from wherever you are, on the road, office, etc.

Friend of mine just had a Liftmaster installed on a single 16 foot swing gate and it's been working flawlessly for about 6 months.

I forget who, but somebody on here recommended this company and I'm kind of leaning towards buying from them.

Not sure I would want the E8 gate opener. Especially if you need to use solar. The control panel doesn't have a built in solar charge controller like the Mighty Mule. I have had very bad luck with add on charge controllers and the one built into my Mighty Mule system has worked flawlessly.

The JSJ site says they are the US importer so I assume they are made in China.

I have the Liftmaster solar powered medium duty gate openers on my farm gates. They work good for my limited use. At most 3 times a day.
My neighbor used them for frequent driveway use and also installed electric locks. They worked fine for about 5 years and then became a monthly repair annoyance. They didnt handle heavy use well. Funny things can affect their reliability. I installed one for a customer and he had trouble with prevailing winds keeping the gate from reaching the lock successfully. Another wanted solar power, but his spot didn’t have enough sun. Frequent use killed the batteries and the solar panels counldnt keep up

The USAutomatic 020320 Sentry 300 Commercial Grade Automatic Gate Opener is another popular gate opener that I have heard about. Gate works with AC supply as well as the solar panel. My friend was saying that this may be a good gate opener, but not the cheapest. It also accommodates a battery which is useful in case of a power outage, but it is not included in the package. You will have to get it separately. It comes with two remotes that work perfectly within 3 feet of it. The range is more than enough. The only thing it doesn’t have is that it does not have is an on-off switch. Works with both heavy and small gates.
