"I ran out the tank.
When I got to the tractor after it stopped the electrical fuel pump was still pumping.
I should have just drained the tank.
It's a bit warmer now.
It was really filling the barn with smoke.
I'll get fresh winter fuel and additive and see if that helps.
I put 1 qt of kerosene in the empty tank.
Kerosene os thinker than Diesel it runs hotter and doesn't have the necessary additives.
It stated without smoke.
When this runs out I'll fill with fresh diesel.
Starting it the other day filled the barn with smoke.
I was exiting holding my breath.
I'm allergic to diesel smoke."
It's much wiser, IMHO, to ask for advice first and before you take action...furthermore, I do not understand why you wanted to run bad/contaminated fuel thru fuel system and combustion chamber??
I once added an older 5gal plastic container of diesel that had algae in it...I simply drained the tank into 5gal buckets by disconnecting fuel line prior to fuel filter bowl. Once emptied, I poured a tank cleaner into fuel tank that too drained into the plastic container. I allowed the tank to completely dry via evaporation w fuel cap off. No smoke, no need to watch tractor or other. About 2-3 hrs later, filled w good fuel and diesel fuel conditioner and was good to go....and yes, obviously I emptied the fuel bowl and changed the fuel filter...
