I wonder if the (idiot) driver was spinning the drum mixing? I can see where that would start a wobble that just didn't go away. They can shake pretty hard on hard ground until the load is wet and mixed.

Exactly. The deck supports might be temporary, and perhaps WHY the cement truck is there, to pour proper footings (article said something to that effect).

We don't know if the homeowner directed the driver to stay on the bridge, or if the driver chose that himself. Either way, it's insane. The tag axle was probably up, yeah. That bridge was doing its job admirably for years, until it got a pointlessly abusive stress test.

When I got concrete for our garage addition this summer, I asked the company what happens if the truck gets stuck in soft dirt or falls into a septic system.

The guy said "First, we empty the concrete into your yard so our truck doesn't get ruined. Next, we call a HUGE tow truck, because the empty truck weighs about 30,000#. Finally, we send you the bill for the concrete and towing, which is usually several thousand dollars."

I'm guessing that bridge in the OPs story isn't rated for 30,000# empty truck, let alone the additional weight of any concrete in the truck.

The homeowner has a nice looking spread there. Google earth the address. Large house and several outbuildings, plus what appears to be lots of concrete driveway on both sides of the bridge. Either they got the concrete in over the bridge or took another way around. Probably figured it was OK.

Again, just guessing, but driver probably asked the homeowner if they'd waive liability for any damage to the bridge. The homeowner probably figured we did it before, so we'll do it again. OK.

I base that on the three truckloads of concrete I got, and all three times, the drivers asked me to waive liability for any damage to our asphalt driveway, as they were pretty sure the truck would crack it.

But, yes, it is just guessing.
