LS G3038H
Greetings everyone. I'm new to this site and could sure use any advice someone is willing to offer. My LS G3038H just started making a horrible nose today while driving forward. It sounds like a bunch of coins in a empty 55 gal barrel. If I put the tractor in 4wd the nose stops but makes a intermittent popping sound. It seems like it is hydrostat related because I can make the sound stop by easing up on the pedal. Pedal full down and it is loud as heck. About 10 hours ago I changed both hydraulic filters and the hydraulic oil.

Any ideas would really be appreciated.

Does it do it in all of the speed ranges, H-M-L?
Hydraulic fluid is at the proper level?
Where does it come from, front, middle or rear of the tractor?
Any implements attached?

The faster you drive the more noise it makes. The fluid is the right level but maybe a little over full. I did recently replace one of the lift cylinders if that can be related.

The sound comes from the middle. I have the box blade hanging on the back. In L you can barely hear it if at all. H is loud as can be.

I'm sorry to hear about this. Does it do it in reverse? Do you feel any jerking or lunging?
I got a bad feeling about this. Sounds like a dealer needs to get involved. Probably not what you want to hear, I suspect you stripped a gear. I'd have to see it, play with it to determine better.

Drive line noises can be really bad ($$$).

Stop using your tractor and get a tech from either your dealer or independent tractor repair facility to help you trouble shoot this issue.

I fixed it!!!! Had a horrible sleepless night reading about all the horrors of folks who spent thousands of dollars at the dealerships... Got up this morning and lifted the tractor on stands. Spun the rear wheels and it was a smooth sound. Spun the front wheels and there was the horrible grinding sound. I could barely see the shaft that runs from the transmission to the front axle but got a glimpse of this little pipe thing that connects the shaft to the front end. It was remaining still as the splines coming from the front axle were spinning in it. Removed the front axle and this little pipe easily slipped off and was stripped out on one end. Drove up to the parts store (40 miles away) and they actually had one in stock. $24.00 later and it is back together FIXED! I probably put too much pressure on the 4wd trying to remove stumps and will be a little more careful from now on. I appreciate all the advice given and am so glad I found this site! Thank you all.

The long answer is below but you were correct. I stripped the connector from the transmission to the front axle. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Glad you were able to fix the problem with out spending a fortune! I love when that happens!
