One of the smoothest riding cars I was ever in was my friends new 1965 Ford Galaxie. He took us for a ride down a rough road and as we were coming to a set of railroad tracks that would throw me out of my seat in my car if I went over 15 mph, he was going 45. I told him to slow down because those tracks were rough. After a short pause he replied "we already crossed them". I never felt a bump.

We had a 67 Custom 500, four door with three in the tree and some lame straight six. Thing looked like a cop car. Had an auto choke that never worked in the cold. My Mom had to get out, take off the air cleaner and shove a pencil down the throat.

Some years later a school friend had a similar car in his garage, but sported an 8 with push button automatic transmission! Our car didn't even have a radio!

Hopefully about this time next year I'll have a '67 Mustang coupe in my shop, it's no numbers matching showstopper, hasn't seen the roads in more than a decade... It's currently a 289 headers, cam, Edelbrock manifold and a 4 barrel carb but as well as carbs work I like the turn key set it and forget it of fuel injection... Conveniently I have a '97 Mercury Mountaineer with a 5.0L and more modern automatic just sitting for spare parts, combine that with the disc brake conversion that I already did with Grenada parts a long time ago and hopefully adding power brakes somehow (maybe hydro) I think it should be a nice sleeper/cruiser I imagine the 220hp that the 5.0L makes is more than the cammed 289 makes...

I sure wish they would stop "fixing" things that aren't broken... I bought a '97 Ford Ranger for a daily driver for a reason, sure I'd have more power and better ride with something newer but I know the components of the of this thing, new enough to be OBD II but still has twin I beam suspension up front (roughly 8 fasteners holding the front suspension together), same dashboard that they had through 2011, slightly different seats, only one airbag, only 2 wheels of ABS, twin piston calipers up front, stupid simple and paid off... Modern stuff is cool and all but there's way too many whiz bang gismos. Things started getting too far around 2010, but it would be SWEET if they combined the older simple stuff with the new modern engines and transmissions, a car that weighed 2000lbs less with less useless junk and more legroom would get much better mileage than they do now... A modern silverado 1500 with a 5.3L and however many gears they come with (is it 8 or 10?) with crank windows, two cupholders up front, bench seat with folding center console in the seat, crank windows, single DIN stereo, heater with simple sliders for temperature and a knob for fan speed and two airbags would easily be 1000lb less than the stupid extra junk they add now and probably get 25mpg... I'd probably buy one...

Putting wall to wall carpeting (ugh) over a hardwood floor should be a crime.
Not if you are the buyer of a house with unannounced wall to wall hidden hardwood flooring that was covered with carpet. :D

You LIKE that rear ABS? That goes to show how different people can be. I've had an F150 with rear wheel ABS, ran a few for work, had a couple of Dakotas with the same and they were the most dangerous things I've ever driven. An inch of snow on the ground meant that I had no way of stopping. I finally learned to run in 4WD in any kind of less than perfect weather, so that the front brakes would slow/stop the rear tires.

LOL. You crack me up, Richard.

My wife keeps a very tidy house. I appreciate all the time and work involved. I highly respect you as a caretaker of your property and contents. I tease you in response. :)

Long ago - riding my motorcycle. Had a bee fly up the sleeve of my jacket. Try this - slow the motorcycle down - whack the arm where the bee is stinging you - try to maintain some degree of control over the motorcycle. Learned quickly - clamp the cuff of your jacket down tight and pull your gloves up over the jacket cuff.

Fortunately - no traffic - I only got stung twice - able to stop the cycle and not end up in the ditch.

I've had bugs fly into my open face helmet also. When I bought the 2018 BMW - bought a full face helmet.

Now, this is what I call "improving" things.

Fifty years ago My daughter was riding a Heathkit mini bike. she was a 10 year old slender and one day came back In from riding. and made this comment. "I now know why motorcycle riders never smile riding their bikes". Keeps from getting bugs in their teeth.

Not sure what you mean. If you're saying that it's like hitting the jackpot to discover hardwood under that carpeting, then I agree with you. OTOH, if you're saying that WTW is a selling point, well maybe 30 years ago but today not so much. My wife works p/t at a flooring store and their wood floor guy has more work than he can handle. Of course this may vary by region too.

We have pine flooring upstairs, and hardwood downstairs and love it. Most of it was covered with linoleum when we bought the place, but that went to the dump very quickly!

Hardwood floor is ugly, noisy, you see every pet hair and crumb and terrible to lie on.

Add the open concept and now the gymnasium has the vibe of an evacuation centre. lol I like the quiet and privacy that individual rooms afford. And don't like to look at a counter full of dishes and pots and pans while at the dinner table.

Having my work shop one with my living room would be convenient, but would I really want that? I see no difference in concept.

Each to their own. I find carpeting much more of a hassle to take care of than wood. If you don't vacuum regularly, or live where there's dirt to be tracked in the dirt gets ground in and is tough to get out. A quick run with a broom or dry mop gets that wood floor clean in no time. I don't regularly lay on the floor.

As far as open concept is concerned, it works where it works and isn't for everyone.
