Multi layered security approaches and not out of the box solutions.

Cameras would be dead last on my list of usefull tools unless you have an in house security force that can watch and respond to your cameras. Cameras offer the illusion of security kind of like airport security. You take your shoes off and are violated in a search while a bad guy is waiting on an airport service road to take your aircraft out with a soviet rocket launcher.

Should mention I have been in the security business since the 80s.

Kubota is considering putting a security keypad on all skid steers and tractor equipment worth over $45,000 MSRP. Essentially you can't start the equipment until the proper code is entered. Any equipment under that value gets the security keypad installed as an owner purchase option. That may not prevent all thefts, but certainly prevent some.

I can't tell you how useful this was.

Here the cops wont even look at a camera image of a thief. Too much help to bother with i guess. And so what. Even if their caught they get let go 20 minutes later. Dont want the thief to get covid

Our neighbor had 600 foot section of T post stolen out of the ground. Thiefs actually cut and rolled up the rusty old barbed wire..... at least there not lazy. Figuring on how long they probibly took to do it, and how hard it is to pull t post in dry ground, i figure they saves about $5.00 per hour from buying the stupid posts.

Put a solenoid in the fuel line that is controlled by a hidden ignition lock. It's getting uncomfortable when the machine runs out of fuel while the thieves drive it up the ramps.

Sorry about your tractor being stolen. Must always keep tractors outa sight. Looks like a coordless reciprocating saw was used on the chain and they cut until the batteries went dead. To be strictly honest, there is not a single chain or lock that cannot be defeated by determined thieves. Most around here put portable generators and a highspeed grinding tool in the back of the truck. 5 mins for a chain and your tractor is theirs. They bring their own trailers with a tow winch for moving the tractor off the lot. Messicks has a video of thieves stealing a $90,000 skid steer right out of the dealers yard.

I lived all over the world, and I found except for Nigeria and Russia, the US has the highest crime in the world. Much of it just goes unreported or the US crime statistics would be far worse.

Hi Rademanmj,

I was in Nigeria too.
I have been working in West Africa during 8 years.
That's right, Lagos Nigeria is terrible for criminality.
But I have seen even worst places : Johannesburg in South Africa and Sao Paulo in Brasil.
I remember that my friend in Joburg used to enter is yard driving backwards.
I was very surprised and ask him why he was acting like this.
He answered that it was easier to drive away if criminals were already into his house.
He got electrified fence 30000 V all around his garden and a "panic switch" in his bedroom to call his private security company waiting at the crossroad in a yellow ex military armored vehicle.
It stays that without criminality, South Africa is so beautiful that, it could be a paradise.
Nothing to do with tractors, of course !

Phil

Hi Bavarian,

I thought about it but did not mount it because I considered (my mistake) this 22 HP tractor was so small criminals will not be interested in it....
For my next tractor I am considering mounting a GPS tracker + a solenoid valve.
