Telling stories at thanksgiving is a great plan. That ship receipt is awesome.

I have an interest in Genealogy. When I was asked to speak at my father in laws funeral this year, I spoke about his lineage to president Abraham Lincoln, and how the Lincoln’s were some of the early settlers in the area.
I had several people later tell me they had no idea he was related to the president, and some asked me for a copy of my notes, which I explained I didn’t have any real notes, but just a few names and dates scratched down so I wouldn’t forget as I spoke.
I did later email some of them my genealogy notes on the Lincoln’s, many of the relatives buried in the same cemetery.
We have furniture from my wife’s GG grandfathers house, that her dad once owned and sold. Her family line in Virginia began in 1760 with her 6G grandfather moving there from Massachusetts , He is also presidents G Grandfather. There’s a house near her moms that was built by her 5G gf around 1800. Sorry if I may have covered this in the thread earlier.

I view this as a sacred responsibility. Not a place to be boastful. But a place to pass on what knowledge is known. Maybe perk someone's interest so they will follow the trail also. This is how our ancestry is passed down. Broadly distributed and sown. Hoping someone will pick up the scent and continue the chase. It's who we are and were. Good stuff Buckeye.

I think I might have mentioned our milk cow brownie. I was looking thru old pictures last night to see when dad had added on to side of garage to house a stall for her. I think it was 1967. Dad would squirt milk at us if we came around while milking. Lol.

My Mom would squirt milk at the cats. They would try to consume all of it they could. Milk all over their faces. I would laugh to tears. :D

Our baseball field.

My loved to play baseball in the front yard. We had a large bare spot for home plate, and bare spots for the bases. We would usually use whiffle balls to avoid losing the ball in the field beyond the yard.

One year we made a portable backstop, old boards nailed together and wheels on the bottom so we could move it. We cut wooden bases and a home plate. We would play ball till it got too dark to see.

When I was young our garden was also in left field. Dad eventually moved the garden to a different area and that became hay field. Center field was the end of a strawberry patch. Right field had cherry and apple trees. We never chalked lines, and the bases weren稚 exactly square, but we had fun.

Our game was Volleyball. I've got a pic somewhere. I'm so Blessed to have had these things in my growing years!!!

I have volleyball court in my back yard. Posts have sleeve in the ground to be removable. Used to have a big game every Labor Day. Haven’t played in a few years.

SW on the flat ground with the black dirt. Good as it gets.

I am getting to know that area little by little (daughter goes to Ohio U) and I like it. Some think it’s dreary and kind of left behind in time. I see the beautiful country, farmland, railways and the history. Nice people, too.

When I went last week, I took I70, I68, I79, Rt 50, Rt 32.
Rt 50 to Parkersburg seemed to take forever. I did like the new Rt50 bypass at Parkersburg, used to have to go thru town.

When I was in college, my friend went to college in Parkersburg, so I hung out there some weekends. It’s just over an hour from the farm.

My 3 sisters all graduated from OU, but not in Athens.

We stopped at this sandwich joint and fuel stop off 70 in W. Maryland Mountains. Something like Lower German Road maybe?
Had a great little bakery and they made an incredibly tasty Cowboy burger. :)

Stop at Puccini’s just east of Cumberland..they have great wood fired pizza. Best pizza I ever had. It’s become a regular stop. They bring it out to you. We call ahead. Easy on and off, near Loves truck stop. Nice clean outdoor access restroom also.
