Is there a title to a tractor?

About 20 years ago a program was put in place to track off-highway equipment due to increasing theft. A PIN (Product Identification Number) system was created using a 17 character ID like the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) for on-highway. Equipment makers wanted PIN to differentiated from vehicles. John Deere and Caterpillar adopted this system. Caterpillar PINs, for example, start with the manufacturer code CAT - the first 3 characters of the PIN identify manufacturer. Kubota only partially adopted the system. My tractors have a 4 or 5 digit serial number but my construction equipment SVL-75-2 has a 17 character PIN plate. I’m not sure if there is a national database but Caterpillar does track owners - provided private sale change of ownership is given to a dealer to enter. I do not know if Kubota has the same owner tracking and I don’t know if it ever was implemented like it is on cars. Of course this doesn’t guarantee no lien but one can track ownership. Why Kubota doesn’t use this theft deterrent ID system on tractors is unknown. I also don’t know if it help recover stolen machines, but I did have to help implement on my product line at Cat - it involved locating a place on the machine to stamp the “hidden” PIN stamped into the frame so it’s not obvious to a thief but can be verified by a dealer.

My Kubota L48 TLB has stick on decals for tractor, loader, and hoe serial numbers.
They could be easily removed.

Yes, my Kubota also has the stickers with barcode. Does anyone know if it is stamped or engraved somewhere? Would a Dremel work for adding your own?

Same with mine. The JD road grader has it stencil punched into the frame.

ALL kubota's have cast in serial numbers, usually around the injection pump area in the block and there are other serial-casting numbers on the major components.

The number on the sticker is also punched into a frame rail, usually in the area of the front axle.

No title but if you buy a new tractor from a dealer and finance the purchase you should get a UCC Financing Statement from the Department of State of the financing dealer. When you pay off your purchase in full, the finance company should file a termination statement with the UCC Filing Office. Then you should receive a copy of the termination statement for your records.

Around here the Amish drive tractors like we drive cars. They are required to plate their buggies but not their tractors. Their trailers pulled behind tractors are plated.

I struggle with the religious concept.

Friend of mine had Amish build his shop. They showed up with only simple hand tools. Told him the labor cost would be less if he provided power tools. So he did. I don't get it.

I buy roofing panels from an Amish company. I know the owner is there if I see the white crew cab dually in the parking lot. He doesn't drive, hires a guy to do that. I don't get it.

Apparently they cannot own power tools, but can use them.
Apparently they cannot drive cars/trucks, but can ride in them.
Driving tractors must be allowed, though I think all of this can vary between sects.

Our forum is not exactly the place to resolve religious differences of opinion, but then there IS NO SUCH place ! In my area we have some Amish but more Mennonite and some Old Order Mennonite. I've talked with them, went to one of their large auctions last week, etc. I would offer the observation (from talking with them) that a large % of their traditions and practices are not exactly "religious" in the direct sense. They are more brought up, trained and indoctrinated to do whatever it takes to preserve their way of life. They strongly believe it is best for morals, character, honesty, and all the good things. I hasten to say that there is wide variation -- some central sets of traditions that characterize certain sects, etc. but a LOT of variations.
Around here "they" tend to be extremely into the work ethic. Every single person from a 4 year old on up is working, has tasks to do. By far the best private (not huge corporations or the US Navy) metal fabrication and machinery repair people here happen to be Old Order Mennonite. Veg farming, furniture, etc. Incredible skills and resourcefulness.
