Forgot to mention, the main reason I get rid of Poplar when it falls is that it will resprout from the down trunk. So I cut it and bonfire most of it but keep the straight sections to split for kindling. It is a stringy nasty splitting wood other than the straight-straight sections that spilt easy. I have to let it sit in the pile a year before burning it to dry out enough to light. On the ground it sucks up moisture like a sponge, basically a nurse log, and it will not light off well.

You have a different poplar then I do, here I call it popple and have all I can do to keep it from splitting when I make lumber out of it, let alone stay straight. I did use a fair amount of it making my shop few years ago, saw it then nail it........

Haven't been around much lately my family surprised me and my daughters showed up for my 65th birthday last week! Yay!! They spent most of the week so I've not been doing any cutting lately. My wife bought me a drone so I've been playing with that. Got a U-tube account set up and made my first video, just gives you an Idea of where I live. First one, very amateurish but here you go. (hope it works)

I seem to have best luck sawing popple when it sits for a year before I saw it, cant wait much longer there wont be anything left saw and stinks to. I dont like it but I see no other good use for it...

Nice place and good job for a first try on the video! Bet my first try would not be that good.

Good drone video, you either flew those before or your a quick learner, I'd probably crash it. Wonder how they'd work on scouting for deer......

FWIW...just the bark of Tulip Poplar trees can fetch upwards of $6 a square foot (that's not a typo)...the wood itself is mostly used for interior moldings and mill work...
It's about worthless for firewood as it burns very fast...
