No offense taken, google is full of crap. Within a week I can lay hands on invoice for 66 Cheby pickup showing Heater extra option.
Heater was also option on all 50s cars, outfit in Rochester, Archer Motors got famous selling truckloads of cars dey hauled from dealer who went belly up in South. Ads from paper proudly offer cars wid New Optional Deleted Heater. Cars in 50s mostly had rubber blade fan for defrost, and dealer installed heater box under dash if not ordered with factoryoptional heater. DeSoto could be ordered wid factory AC & Heat. AC evap box was in trunk and blew into car from nozzles in package shelf. Heater was under dash. (removed) actually been in a 56 DeSoto wid dat setup and a V-8 Hemi under hood. Had fuzzy fabric seats too.
68 Plymouth, real full size car, first wid rear window defrost. Nozzle thru package shelf, fan under shelf with intake thru shelf on driver side.
Pretty sure windshield pizzers was option in 50s too, floor mounted balloon like plumber plunger left of clutch by headlight dimmer squirted bugjuice from jar or bag under hood. Euro cars mostly had dash mounted pump to give knee a bath when rubber hose cracled.
