Good Morning!!!! 53F @ 4:30AM. Sunny. High 66F. Winds light and variable.
Still no rain in the 10-day, I'd be happy to take some off your hands if we can figger a way to get it moving west, Paul. Yesterday morning in the wee hours another brush fire broke out only a few miles from here, but fortunately someone reported it quickly and it only burned an acre and a half. Very curious how it got started, but my guess is a homeless person's warming fire got away from them. Just goes to show how dry everything is still. Less than half the normal amount of rain has fallen in October and November, and in my gauge I haven't seen anything measurable since June. I love learning how things work, so I guess I share your delusion. Does that make it any less delusional for ya? I'm on a flag lot, and the house is not visible from my access road. People can see it from across the canyon, but I'd just as soon not advertise its location with a bunch of Christmas lights.
Nice sunset, Ron. I think it's a sign of the times that we all start worrying when we get a little sniffle, headache, or scratchy throat. And heaven forbid we have to sneeze in public!
At least the rain will soften up the ground some for digging those fence posts, Eric. Be an even bigger trick getting rain to the parched West Coast from England, though.
I mentioned yesterday that it hasn't been that long since we were basking in 100F+ temps here. And it won't be long before we'll be getting frost overnight and maybe even a tiny bit of snow. Neither are my favorite weather, though, but one does make me appreciate the other more. As nice as the weather is in spring and fall, it wouldn't be appreciated as much without the extremes of the two other seasons to keep things in perspective.
New restrictions were announced here yesterday, Drew, based on the availability of critical condition beds in the hospitals. Unfortunately for us, we're lumped in with the major metro area of Sacramento, so we suffer from their excesses. That has our state legislators dander up, but nothing will amount of it. From what I've seen over the past few weeks, we've come down slightly from our second infection rate peak, and it wasn't as high as the one in late August/early September.
Thanks for increasing my apple awareness quotient, folks. Kept an eye out for some of those names in the produce isle yesterday, but all I found were galas, jonathans, the usual red and yellow delicious, and my still favorite fuji. But I'll keep lookin'...
Would never guess there's a shipping container in there somewhere, David. Nice work! Can't wait to see what you'll come up with for the insides.
Out here the HDs will do inter store shipments for free, RS. If you can find someone behind the counter that knows how to do it...:irked:
With the generator, Drew, you want to avoid trying to start the engine when household loads are connected to it, as it puts more strain on the starter motor and battery. I don't like to open and close breakers when there's a load, either, since it's hard on the breakers. Sometimes you just can't avoid it, though.
Saw that UPS story on my Facebook feed. NewEgg was also on the list. And true to form, there was a status update yesterday from OnTrac letting me know that they're running late, too. That's the new oil pan for the van, so looks like no work on that anytime soon.
Speaking of UPS, I found the last two deliveries inside the lock box when I got home yesterday, with the hasp engaged and the lock locked. Dunno what happened, but I wish the USPS person would start doing it that way, too.
I did manage to track down a phone number for the guy that made the decoupler, and the leak is due to a damaged x-ring on the actuator shaft. He's sending some replacements and I sent him a deposit on a locker for the front differential. He has the parts on hand, but won't have a spot open until next year. That works fine for me since I want to camp in it over Superbowl weekend anyway.
I think (hope) everything's arrived to complete the wiring on the solar panel upgrade, so I'll focus on that today. 90ー elbow hose barbs were not to be found in town yesterday, though, so I'll have to get 'em from McMaster-Car next week, and that'll put the generator upgrade on pause for a while. The rear engine mount for the van showed up, too, so that's back on the front burner. Too many things going on at once, and I'm running out of bench space for them all. Be nice to finish some of them and reduce the size of the mess!
TGIF gang!:drink:
