I told this at the beginning of Covid… I was in line at the local convenience store waiting to pay for a snack for the ride home. The clerk was engaged with her primary job of BSing with her friends, and had a popcorn kernel stuck in her teeth. She had half of her bare hand in her mouth before finally getting it out, then went back to running the cash register. I looked at the bag of jelly beans I was holding, looked at her, looked at the jelly beans again; decided that I really needed to start eating healthier food and put them back. T\
Until then I often bought sandwiches there but now all I will buy is prepackaged food.

I only ever pay using Paywave now. No cash in my wallet any more.
I hate it when the total is over $100 and you have to key in your PIN. I keeps 'lots' of hand cleaner in my car.

Around Detroit, you can put 15 gallons of gas into a 10 gallon tank ! They must have very efficient pumps .

They had some pumps that would do that in Orlando. Called the police and reported them to the commission that oversees the fuel pumps.

Pump said I dispensed 40 gallons of fuel. The truck had a 35 gallon tank and still had 1/4 of a tank. Should have taken 25 gallons or so.

Station also had a second card reader in the back office that would steal credit card numbers.

Manager had the cashier process the card at the register then swipe the card in the office

I had a pump once which was obviously off, I went in and talked to the manager who basically told me to pound sand. I called the Weights and Measures Board, who sent somebody up and shut the pumps down until they were fixed. The manager had been there a while, through at least one store merger, but he was gone not long after that. I'm not sure if the two were related...

I try to stay out of gas stations when they have pay at the pump. I hate it when the pump says your receipt is at the cashier. And then there are a couple of employees standing around and don't go fill the paper roll in the pump. It really urks me. Jon

I've never encountered this problem but then I never pay with cash. Pumps around here charge the same for credit or debit so I use my debit card at the pump and bypass the debit prompt to use it as a credit card. This stops the pre authorization of an unrealistic amount and just charges the card for the final price of gas purchased. I keep a small spray bottle of alcohol and paper towels in all my vehicles so I never touch a pump handle or buttons until they are cleaned. Most of the time I just use a paper towel to push buttons and pump fuel so even if I don't clean them first I never come in contact with them.

Trying to limit going inside ANY store if I can avoid it. Not much I can't put off and wait a couple of days to order what I need to have it delivered to my door.
