We, in the USA, seem to be rapidly morphing into a similar sheep strain!
The French have always seemed to march to a different drummer.

The topic of crime and what we do with those who refuse to live like the rest of us is very complicated. In 2019 the average cost for an inmate in California was $81,000.00. Most of that went to security and the inmates HEALTHCARE. Lots of folks live on and support their family on a lot less than 81K. Oh .. AND they have no health care. In Pennsylvania we have at least one state prison dedicated pretty much as a hospital. Does it make sense to keep a bed ridden prisoner till death? But then after spending 70 years in prison where do we toss them?

Cut back on health care expenditures on prisoners incarcerated for "life". Addresses two problems.

For any inmate, give them a multiVitamin every day and thats it unless they or their family can pay for inmate health care. The families of inmates should become more responsible for more of the expense of their incarceration.

One of the things my area is famous for is the Johnston Gang. Infamous in the 70ç—´ for being a theft ring stealing anything, but specialized in heavy equipment, trucks, tractors.
Ever see the movie At Close Range (Sean Penn, Christopher Walken)? Its about the Johnston Gang from Southeastern PA.

This is a great movie. The Johnston gang make as far South as Abingdon Va.
