How they steal tractors in my place

In idaho, at least where i live on acreage, i can shoot on my own property whenever i want. In fact i have a pistol and small rifle range on my property. I dont want to live where i cant shoot

One of the things my area is famous for is the Johnston Gang. Infamous in the 70痴 for being a theft ring stealing anything, but specialized in heavy equipment, trucks, tractors.
Ever see the movie At Close Range (Sean Penn, Christopher Walken)? Its about the Johnston Gang from Southeastern PA.

I bet these guys got my Hale PTO pumps ! Had two stolen right off the tractor in the early 80's in Jennersville. Second one I padlocked to the 3pt hitch so they took the hitch too ! Third one was a 1000 not 540 and locked tractor in barn every night, didn't get that one ! Also had all the tools cleaned out of the shop during that time. Posted reward posters all over town ,never any leads though.

I'm sure some of you guys will find this hard to believe but whenever you refer to some movie I have no idea what you are talking about. I haven't watched a movie since 1972,I believe, when there was a movie called Monty Walsh that was supposed to be based on a book that I read many times over. It was the best western novel that I ever read and when it came out as a movie with an all star cast I really wanted to see it. I got up and walked out less than 1/2 way through it because they screwed up the story so bad.

Since then I just gave up on Hollywood and from what I read about what they put out I'm just as well off. YMMV.

Your not missing much if anything at all! When the wife has a movie playing I mostly end up paying more attention to my dogs as they are usually more entertaining.

There was an IH dealer in a nearby town called Chester (pretty much a crime ridden dump) A customer had ordered 2 brand new Paystar 5000 concrete mixers. They were inside a fenced-in lot. They stole both of them. Just fired em up and drove them through the barb wire topped cyclone fence!

Years ago had a truck break down in Hartford CT, had a wrecker haul it in for repair. The yard had the chain link fence, barb wire top. They had the pissed off junk yard dog they let out at night and they guy said take everything you ever want to see again out of the cab, CB etc. I'm like what are you talking about, this place is locked up like a prison ! He said the thieves jump the fence, land on the trucks to avoid the dog , break the windows and take everything ! Got a rental truck and got out of there as fast as I could !

Just because its a law dont mean it makes sense.

I don't know how things work in Canada, but on this side of the border an LEO's job is to enforce the law as best he can. We have a court system to decide if the charge is right or not... When I hear "Fire into the air" I envision firing a round over somebody's head, not straight up. Hence my question of how far to the next house. I also could have asked what he was shooting... a shot gun will carry a lot less than a 30-06.

I seem to recall that he actually fired into his own barn to be on the safe side.
Remember, he was an instructor so he'd know all about velocity range drop etc.
