How they steal tractors in my place

After I had stuff stolen at my barn, I had a deputy tell me I should go deer hunting, sitting in my barn, with a rifle. I don't think I want to kill someone, only stop them. He said that they were sure they knew who it was, but not enough proof.
We did do a few things to slow them down. Put up locked gate and keep it locked. Store fuel cans out of sight. Large barking dogs. My son has to take his battery out of his boat, or it is gone within a week. Make it hard for them to get on or off the property. Keep keys out of equipment. Turn fuel off equipment. Turn battery disconnect off.
Bad to say, but make it easier to go down to road for something.

I just bought a battery disconnect for my L48TLB, and due to the battery access door location, the disconnect will be mostly out of sight.
I really don't expect anyone to try to steal the machine, but then .....who does?
Of course the machine is insured, but I definitely do not want a Tier 4 machine replacement.

A friend had an F700 with saddle tanks which he always kept full. It would set through the winter, and he always lost fuel. One year he added sugar to the tanks, and lost that fuel also; but the thefts stopped.

That's his story. I do have some doubts as I don't believe that sugar does what it's purported to do. A bottle of Coke works better, anyways...

My father would keep diesel in red cans, and gas in green jerry cans... the next time the red can might be gas, depending on what he needed. I don't know how he kept it straight but he did.

The law is the law. You can't expect cops to ignore a blatant violation, especially invovling a firearm. If he wants to do that, he should have a starters pistol, or blanks! I offered a starters pistol to my lady friend but she refused. I figured, what intruder is going to stick around with some crazy broad firing a gun upsairs?

Some of these places he would probably get arrested for shooting a starters pistol without a having permit for a race. :confused2: :rotfl: :confused2:

That's the last thing I would want, anyways. About the time you show a weapon it better be real, and you better be willing to use it.
