What are you hoping for or asking for Christmas?

Weve ALWAYS been politically divided. Look all the way back to the days of Abraham Lincoln, the late 1960’s and the riots this summer..

I'm sure you're right, and we're just more aware of it today. So-called social media has done much to pour gasoline on the flames.

I think of peace as more than just absence of physical conflict. Peace from anxiety about job loss/financial security, concerns about health problems, worries about children, family members and friends, etc. A pause (or permanent end) to acrimonious arguments and the seeming inability to compromise and not just listen to, but strive to understand and empathize with, opposing viewpoints. In general, a desire to wish for, and actively pursue, what is best for our fellow man, as opposed to merely our own self interest.

My oldest just lost his first two teeth last week. I've always thought of this song from the perspective as a child. As I get older, however, I wonder if it doesn't also ring true for those of a more "advanced" stature.

I remember 20 years working, coming home, clean up, dinner then catch up on the news later in the evening. There was a little bit of journalism then.
Now its every minute of the day.

For Christmas, I want to see continued peace on Earth Good Will towards mankind, but Id also like to see a return to honest journalism.

It's only every minute of the day if you let it.

I watch 19 minutes of national news in the morning while I eat my granola and hard boiled egg. 5 minutes of local to see who got shot last night.

30 minutes of local at 6:00 to catch up on local issues and who got shot today, followed by 30 minutes of different network national news at 6:30. Then the first 5-10 minutes of local again at 11pm to see who got shot since 6pm, and if it's gonna rain tomorrow.

I find the guys at my job that keep the talk radio on all day, be it on their personal devices or the work van radios, are the most disgruntled. It's all they listen to all day long. And it's all they talk about. We had to implemented a no politics during lunch guideline because it was getting heated. Now we sit around and do general trivia for half an hour. Much more pleasant. Turns out the answer to most astronomy questions is uranus.

As for what material things I want for Christmas is some good warm socks and a couple loose flannel shirts. Jams, jellies and assorted caramel corns are nice, too. :licking: What I want for everyone else is peace and happiness, and maybe that they share with me that cheese and meat tray that I sent them.

I have the big Amplifier kit coming. That was my birthday and Christmas gift all in one. Hope it shows up here pretty soon.

Hobby gifts are always good. I bought myself an ice fishing jacket (it floats) last year for Christmas and my birthday combined. I promised my wife I'd get one many years ago, but finally got around to it. She's always worried when I go out on the ice. I never used to be, but now that the weather makes ice later in the year, it's thinner, and doesn't last as long. Plus I know an old guy that went through with his buddy and he thought he was gonna die. Pretty compelling story. And I've seen half a dozen people die through the ice locally, so, it was time I got that safety device. She's happy now and I feel better about walking on water.

I almost forgot, a new smoker is on the list. I am trying to revive the never written down family sausage recipe*, as well as smoked salmon and my smoker is not worth fixing. I had gotten away from using the smoker since it was not very functional. Currently in analysis paralysis on what smoker to get.

*family tradition was smoking it in an old outhouse, going to skip that feature.

I would just about guarantee you cannot walk on water. :)
