What are you hoping for or asking for Christmas?

Of course we will still spoil the grandkids! :D
I had to quit even that. Three of my grandkids have kids. And lots of them! They should all be taking care of me.

My mom is still alive so that makes her a great-great grandma. The first still living of all the family I know of.

Year after year the wife and daughter yammer at me for what I want for Christmas. Year after year I say nothing.
Year after year they buy me the most stupid useless gifts imaginable.

So what are you all asking for on Christmas?
i say the same thing, always get junk that needs returning. Once i got a rolling magnet to pick up used bullet casings on range. Had good intentions, but brass cant be picked up with magnet. But seriously, i dont need or want anything except chocolate.

That's why I don't like Christmas giving. Anything which somebody is apt to buy me I already have if I want it; anything I might give somebody, they will go out and buy if they need it. I've mentioned in the past, the last few years that my family got together we picked a family off the tree at the church and bought for them; I enjoyed the celebrations a lot more those years than I ever did when we all pretended to be excited about what we were given.

The first year, one woman we bought for had asked for toilet paper. I can't imagine being so broke that I had to ask for that. We can go back and forth all day long about her choices but at the end of the day she needed it. We probably gave her a year's supply that day, everybody brought toilet paper as well as something else she had on her list.

Hobby gifts are always good. I bought myself an ice fishing jacket (it floats) last year for Christmas and my birthday combined. I promised my wife I'd get one many years ago, but finally got around to it. She's always worried when I go out on the ice. I never used to be, but now that the weather makes ice later in the year, it's thinner, and doesn't last as long. Plus I know an old guy that went through with his buddy and he thought he was gonna die. Pretty compelling story. And I've seen half a dozen people die through the ice locally, so, it was time I got that safety device. She's happy now and I feel better about walking on water.

I'm just catching up on this so please forgive me for the multiple posts. Can you post a link or picture of what you bought? That's been on my list for years also but hasn't happened yet. I want it for some of the same reasons you list, plus hope to do some beaver trapping this winter.

In all seriousness, going out on the ice for the first time each year is quit exhilarating. Even better if you have the entire lake to yourself and there are no other footprints.
Years ago we had a skating party on the lake I near where I grew up. There was no snow and my friend and I got bored so just headed out along the shore line. We went about 1 1/2 miles in a straight line, but along the shore it was probably farther. It was the best time I ever had on skates, and I believe that it was also the last time.

What's creepy is when there's snow on the ice. You're walking along, and all of a sudden you break through a thin crust of ice under the snow, go through 3-4" of water, then land on more ice. Sometimes it's 12" of solid ice. Sometimes it's 2" of mush. YIKES!
I carry my chisel for that, and throw it down at every step. Even that doesn't always work though... years ago I was walking a frozen stream looking for a beaver house. I knew that it was there someplace, as we had found fresh wood when crossing it earlier that week. The stream wasn't very deep and after about a mile and a half it got too routine; throw the chisel out, take a step, throw the chisel out yet again... all of a sudden the chisel chunked through and before I could react a big sheet of ice slowly turned, dumping me into the stream. I felt like Maxwell Smart after tripping a secret trap door.
I got out and walked back to the truck soaking wet. On the way back I found the house I was looking for though... in the lake, about 100 yards from where my truck was parked. Oh, well.

This is the first Christmas that we decided as a family that we wouldn't exchange gifts. Liberating and stress reducing these days leading up to holidays especially since getting together is becoming a logistical nightmare... and now add COVID to the equation.

Of course we will still spoil the grandkids! :D

We went that route several years ago and it is great. We still do for the little ones. No more gift cards lost in the console

I guess that it's not a Christmas wish, but one year when I was a kid the church chartered a bus and visited nursing homes, singing Christmas Carols. We would file in the front door carolling, walk through the hallways, and leave through the back. That must have been nearly 50 years ago yet I still remember one bedridden woman singing to herself as we walked past her bed.

This is the first year (in 33 years) we'll be home for Christmas... Thanks COVID @#$%^&*(

Normally, we spend it with my wife's mom and my present to her is... I fix everything on her "list" (and several more thing I find that need to be fixed). Keeps me busy doing things I want to do and really helps her out. Only thing that's off limits, is plumbing. A. I hate plumbing. B. a leaky faucet turns into having to replacing every fixture in the house and C. did I mention I hate plumbing...

We give calendars with photos of her Grand-dog...
