Does anyone else tend to lose/forget about gift cards. I must have a half dozen or more that are "somewhere". Never can think of anything I want when I have one with me, and when I do go out to get something the card(s) aren't with me. :confused3:

I want nothing and being a devout atheist I feel like a hypocrite if I receive anything, I will give anything to anyone who needs help at anytime if it is within my ability and they are deserving and don't feel the need to have one day for a feel good experience, tomorrow is my birthday and I feel embarrassed when I receive gifts, just a personal foible.

Yet with those words you show more understanding of the holiday than many (most?) Christians.

i use gift cards all the time. the only one that bit me one the butt was an outback steakhouse $50 that i forgot i had...until the restaurant closed in my town. i was about to toss it when i emailed their corporate office the info. they sent me a check.

lately ive been buying gift cards from my favorite restaurants to keep their money flowing in these sucky times. even if i dont hand them out, ill use them myself later.

They are better than gift certificates, at least the card is easy to stuff in the wallet on top of my CC or Debit card so it reminds me to use it.

Thanks for reminding me. I have a gift card in my wallet from my birthday in October. I guess I'll have to run up to the big city and buy some more ammo from Academy Sports. Personally, I would have preferred a nice crisp $50 bill. :laughing:

Many years ago I received a gift card for the local mall stores. Its value declined something like $5 each month. Shameful practice.

From MarketWatch.com in 2018: Consumers spent more than $130 billion on gift cards per year, according to advisory company CEB TowerGroup, but it said roughly $1 billion went unspent.

Some states require those funds to be turned over as Abandoned Property, similar to uncashed checks & unclaimed bank balances after so many years.

Good luck with that. $50 might buy you a box of 9mm. Maybe. if they have any which is highly unlikely. You would probably do a lot better choosing some other type of sporting gear.

i agree the gift card is a horrible gift. I hate to get them. I would much prefer MONEY!. But some people think that is crass. The only one that even comes close to being useful is a Wal=Mart gift card because everyone has to go to Wal-Mart. I have received many others thru the years that were never redeemed.
