What are you doing to spread some joy this Christmas/Holiday season

I always leave takeout tips and have increased the amount this year to maybe double. I ordered 100+ neck gaiter masks from Amazon and sold them at work to benefit local charity, The Christian Help Center. $385 so far.

It was earlier this month, but I gave my barber $100 for my haircut. I have been tipping him extra since Covid broke out. I don't go as often and I am sure his business is down. He seemed very appreciative.

Just wanted to show you how some people live that we take food boxes to.

Makes you appreciate things more. The children are growing up in pitiful conditions. Not all but most of our stops you have to wade through the garbage to get to the door.

It's easy to sit at a computer and criticize, thank you for doing that. I've told this before, we used to pick a family off the tree at church and buy what they had asked for. One woman wanted toilet paper... Say what you want but I can't imagine being so destitute that you need to ask for it in that manner. Between all of us she got everything on her list, and EVERYBODY in my family bought toilet paper for her that year. :D

For about a dozen years or so now, a friend and I have been processing extra firewood each year and donating it to families in need. It started with the two of us, then we added a couple more friends. For the past 6 years or so, we've expanded it to a community wide event. Over the years, I estimate we've had 75 community members contribute on one way or another: some donating fully processed and seasoned firewood, some donating the trees they had a tree service took down in their yard, some volunteering at community work days to process log into firewood, some helping with deliveries (all too often in the middle of a -10˚F cold snap or a blizzard). We've had the Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts, 6 year old kids and 80 year old grandfathers helping. A friend who is a professor at the University of Vermont brings one of her classes down on a field trip to help process firewood each fall (UVM is big on their students doing some community service).

Our regional food bank much more this year, with demand so high. They use cash contributions to buy food by the pallet. Volunteers and our National Guard are in there masked, packing boxes and loading vehicles.

Also, a new one for me- Boy's and Girl's Club. The local Charles Schwab franchisee supports this charity and will match any of his clients' support one for one thru the end of 2020. He is financially savvy so I trust his due diligence, plus he is putting his money where his mouth is.
